Default OBD I Question

My friend has a 2001 Type R and recently purchased an OBD I ecu. He cannot start the car with the OBD I. He said that the immobilizer needed to be bypassed. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks for the help.

This shouldnt be a problem.
The immobilizer function is handled by the ECU itself.

My friend says that the immobilizer sends a signal to the ecu. Since the ECU is older, it does not have this function. He said the ecu would work on a 98 but not a 2001. The local shops are having the same problem and say that the immobilizer needs to be bypassed.

Nope.

The immobilizer sends a signal to the ECU which doesnt send signals to the
fuel injectors unless it recieves that signal. Replacing the ECU will effecitvely
bypass the immobilizer function. You shouldnt be having this problem. Noone
i know has had this problem so there is something else wrong.
