Default ASAP- tell me if i blew my motor!

i was driving and i noticed a very faint ticking noise in my motor. as soon as i noticed it, i got a "check engine" light. so i looked and i was dry, no oil. the noise is very light, very quiet, only to be heard in mid-high rpms in first and second gear. my performance doesnt seem to be affected at all. and the ticking is very very quiet, u have to really try hard to hear it. please help, and thanks in advance.

it might be valve tap, how long has it been since your last oil change, vtec or no how hard do you drive?

yes, it is vtec sohc, and it was dry, so i filled it with oil and the light went off. the motor is a D16Z6, with around 90,000 miles, and i do go into vtec alot. anyone else have an opinion.

Jebus....how often do you check your oil?? That should be very important especially in a VTEC motor....

If you blew your motor you can't drive no more. It got to be something else!! No crack on the longblock means no engine blow!!

I got an oil change once right before a trip in my old car, and the dipshit overtightened the drain plug, and it ran out of oil... It also made some noises that I hadn't heard before, but in my case once I put oil back in it, and got a new drain plug it was fine... never did have any more problems with it...

I don't know what it is in your situation, but I also agree that if you had blown your motor you wouldn't be driving it...

Two things dude. Compression test and leak down test this will tell you the condition of your motor. If it's good throw some oil and drive that ***** F@cker till the wheel's fall off.

Hopefully you just need your valve clearance adjusted. But it may be something bad.

I bent a rod on my D16Z at 75k miles with no major mods. It started kinda like that. Got a wierd knocking noise, CEL light came on for VTEC failure to engage or something like that. Checked oil, It was a little low, but not much. It was nocking just a little bit. I took it for an oil change, and re-adjusted my valve clearance. Afterward it still didn't sound right. The next day that little knock turned into a huge one making it nearly undrivable.

I took it to the dealer as I was still under the extended waranty, and they were thier usual dumass's. they told me to start it so I did. Then the guy says it's not knocking, it sounds fine. So I reached under hood and rev'd the enging up. the honda tech jumped back and almost fell over it knocked so bad. He said, "holy ****! that's bad" The look on his face was as if he saw a ghost. After dissasembly, they said I had a bent rod in cyl #4. After showing that I had mobil 1 oil changed every 3kmile and all the other maintenance was done, I got a new motor from the extended waranty. Now I'm doing my best at trying to blow up my 2nd d16z as I really want to get a b16a.

I'd say you need a valve adjustment (90,000 mile service if you haven't had it) and an oil change. (Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30 is what i use)
