Default Advice on ignition timing

I just advance my igniton timing on my 00 civic si. I know that this is a ITR forum, but you guys seem to be really knowledgeable. I advanced it 18 degrees. lowend torque feels alot better, but it doesnt seem willing to rev like it did at the stock setting, and the top end does feel smoother, but at night when it's cool out my air fuel ratio meter shows me being really rich and my car feels like its being choked at the top end. If this helps my mods are: ITR cams, Greddy 4-2-1 header, DC sports catback,Fields VTEC controller, AEM pulleys, and Comptech Icebox.Ay advice would be appreciated.

You should probably be okay at 18 degrees (stock itr is 16 +/- 2). Unfortunately, one of the tricks is you are going to see a DRASTIC change & with all of the other goodies (similar to my mods) without going to a dyno, you may not gain power across the board.

I don't know if you've dyno tuned your Civic yet, but with the Honda's are notorious for running RICH especially at high rpm even with the better flowing i/h/e. Sounds like it's time to take a trip to Mr Dyno!! Trust me, you will like the results you can get with an hour or two of dyno time focusing on your ignition timing and fuel/vtec setup.

good luck!

Is stock civic si timing 16 +/- 2 like the ITR?
If not, you should only be bumping it up to the highend of your factory recommended.

yeah, stock timing is 16-/+ degrees. it feels alot more torque at the low end, but it feels restrictive on top. Is that normal?

I run daily @ 17 & have no hesitation at top end...You may be feeling the extra fuel at the top end not burning (with all my mods, the stock curve was showing ~ 11.1 RICH!!! @ 8000 rpm) Until you can play on the dyno & adjust fuel, you may just be a bit stuck.

Good luck!

do you guys think that 17+/- may be safer? It's hard to find a dyno around here and i dont trust my autometer guage. It's highly inaccurate, bunch of rainbow colors. should I lean it out on the top end?
