Default is a distributor rotor suppose to be tight or have a little play in it?

my distributor rotor is loose you can shake back and forth and just has a lot of play in it is it supppose to be like this or is it suppose to be tight. still trying to fix my missing problem someone please help me.

it shouldn't haev any play in it. It should be tightly screwed on.

Are u talking about the rotor with the two notches that go into the intake cam?? That rotor should move side to side a little, if you look at the intake cam where the dizzy goes the slot is offset to one side and so is the rotor. There shouldn't be any other play anywere in the distributor.

im talking about the rotor when u take the distributor cap off the rotor that u see under the cap hooked on to the rest of the ditributor

it should be held on by a screw. if its loose,, then you got problems

i think this may be my problem why my car is missing a t 6,000 rpms and above what do u think?

Its on the shaft portion of the rotor.

Some ting like that would cause all kinds of problems. And that screw is always on really tight, it actully feels like the screw is stripped in my car but it's not. good luck
