Default Buying teg for TURBO NEED HELP

Hi I'm gonna let you all know that I used to be a die hard domestic freak. I had owned a 98 gsr that was bone stock and then had a bad wreck and then moved up to a 99 z28 now I know you all don't want to admit it but those are bone stock mid 13's cars. Anyways i got rid of that and moved to a truck due to work reasons. I'm ready for a fast car again. I don't have 30-40k to build up a domestic so i guess i'm looking towards a used civ/teg/prelude. I've always loved the tegs and so far (correct me if I'm wrong) i have many more options with the b18c(that correct?) engine in the GSR. I'm planning on chunkinc 5-10k into the engine and turbo set up so i can hopefully run 12's. Thats all i'm really aiming for. To beat my domestic buddies and have a much more reliable ride. (my camaro while it was 12.2 in 1/4 broke down about twice a month) I've found some 98-99 tegs with around 30k miles around 16k asking. Is that a good price? Also does the mileage matter since i'm eventually gonna tear apart the internals? Also would a civic or a prelude be a better option say a civic with a GSR motor? Also would i want to get a prefab kit like DRAG or FMAX first on the stock internals and then a couple months later tear apart the engine and just up the boost? I've also heard that the wastegates on the fmax and drag kit are prone to not opening and fireballing your engine. Would a elect boost controller help prevent this or do i just buy a better wastegate? Or do i want to go with a totally custom turbo kit. Remember the goal of the project is mid to low 12s TOTALLY streetable power with maybe only one trip to the drag strip just to see what it runs. I'm more worried about and 10-20mph punch which is why FWD doesn't seem like that bad of a thing. I really appreciate all who took the time to read my post and help a newbie like me out!

Welcome to the Dark Side And also welcome to Honda-Tech.

yes a B18C1 is the engine in a GSR, a B18C5 is in the Type R

I'm planning on chunkinc 5-10k into the engine and turbo set up so i can hopefully run 12's. Thats all i'm really aiming for. To beat my domestic buddies and have a much more reliable ride. (my camaro while it was 12.2 in 1/4 broke down about twice a month)
Now now, playing with the mustangs isn't nice

you can probably get one for closer to 15.

Also does the mileage matter since i'm eventually gonna tear apart the internals?
Mileage doesnt really matter, as long as the car was properly maintained. And not beat on.

Also would a civic or a prelude be a better option say a civic with a GSR motor?
92-95 Civic hatch's /w turbo'ed b18s are an extremely popular and fast combo. You can lighten it up big time, and be smoking the domestics. It's all in preference though. Personally i love my teg!

Also would i want to get a prefab kit like DRAG or FMAX first on the stock internals and then a couple months later tear apart the engine and just up the boost?
I would build the bottom end and reinforce the valvetrain then slap on a drag gen 3 kit.

I've also heard that the wastegates on the fmax and drag kit are prone to not opening and fireballing your engine.
The deltagate wastegate has been prone to failure. Throw a tial or hks on and you'll be good.

Would a elect boost controller help prevent this or do i just buy a better wastegate?
Upgrade the wastegate.

Or do i want to go with a totally custom turbo kit.
if you got the $$$$

turbo isnt gona be the best for 10-20 cause of the time it takes to spool up. to run 12's your gona want to be making a lot of topend power so you would need a bigger turbo like t4 or a t3/t4. If you want 10 - 20 power you want either a smaller t3 turbo or a supercharger.. but a sc'ed b18 prolly wont get you in the 12's.

I really appreciate all who took the time to read my post and help a newbie like me out!
*Phew* that took a while. Hope i gave you a decent answer to everything

Welcome to honda-tech!

i have a b18b powered integra.....(non v-tec)....i installed a revhard turbo kit and (on slicks) was able to
run 12.9@107mph......i have no other mods than the turbo and the clutch and the ignition (all of which are
a must with turbo) this is a totally stock motor with stock internals and injectors at 8-9psi. i plan on doing
a minor rebuild with pistons and rods (havent decided on brand) and some larger injectors and i think this
should net me low 12s.......hope this was some what helpful

Also i've heard that the drag3 kit has no airfilter? Is this true? The Drag and FMAX were my two choices. Also I think a hondata system is looming in the future! I really appreciate that long reply!

revhard does not come with any piping or filter before the turbo, the DRAG and Fmax kits do.

personally i think f-max is a little pricey and i dislike the mf2 injectors.. i would rather just beef up my injectors to like 550, put a high volume fuel pump in the tank and under the hood... my one friend has 3 flippin fuel pumps.. lol.. a little overkill but its kinda cool. i would deffinetly go with a hondata chip. Depending on which engine you get though you may have to do an odb1 conversion.
