Take Out Your Aggressions - Replace Your Front Rotors!
I replaced my front rotors for the first time this weekend. However, at 80K miles the rotors were FUSED to the hub. After liberally spraying anti-rust stuff, I then stripped the threads on the "back out" holes. Then we took a 5 lbs sledgehammer to the rotor (where it fits over the hub). Didn't budge. Then we hit it harder. And harder! Nothing.
Then we took the equivalent of a hand held jackhammer and chiseled 4 inches of metal off the rotor/hub area until it came free. Holy cow! 30-minute job took 2 hours - even with all the right tools, in my buddy's service station.
We ground the rust off the hub and sprayed anti-sieze in there. Also, I didn't reinstall the screws that hold the rotors to the hub. The lugnuts ought to hold everything together. What a pain in the ***.
Also, I ran over a dead racoon the night before this. Messed up my toe-in and splattered blood all down the side of my ITR.

HOLY Ooogly MOoogly....
I hope I don't run into that when I have to remove my rotors for resurfacing!!
I posted something a while back about how PISSED I got trying to remove those 2 philips screws holding the rotors on.
My huge recommendation to all out there who have new Rs is to try and back these out....anti-seize em...or best of all..invest in a impact screwdriver like Yoshi recommended...!
Man....you now have the hungry spirit of a raccoon trapped in your R!

Yup. Used the impact driver to get the screws out. Used the bolt to remove the rotor but the rotor was so stuck it stripped the threads on the rotor.
Used lots of anti seize on the new parts.

Heh, got a nice impact driver, but even with only 12k miles my retaining screws are fused in their little homes...bought a bigger hammer, only succeded in screwing up the screws. So, god knows how it'll come out, probably a torch and some dynamite...just want to take off the dust shield, but i figure i'll stand a better chance of getting the rotor off the hub now rather than later....sounds like you & D had similar experiences, except when he tried backing it off with the bolt holes, the rotor fragmented and a big chunk came off around the bolt hole.
Always looking for an excuse to post D the barbarian...

I saw that raccoon removing your wheels and tightening those screws holding the rotors on. So now you can feel good that you got the culprit who caused your problem.
That pic always cracks me up too... D looks like someone "my people" would like to talk to under a very big, hot, bright, blinding light...
i don't think everyone understands pcorad and mine problem that we encountered... it had nothing to do with the retaining screws... ID of the inside of the hat of the rotor siezes to the hub. it just a pain in the ***.
