GC Coilover droop limiter (straps)
Hi Warren.
I've got the Bilsteins, the GC coilover sleeve kit, and Eiback 8" springs.
When lifting the car in the rear, it's quite apparent that since there is no upper spring seat other than the car body (and since the shock's piston/rod hasn't been shortened) , that the spring is free to move around causing some unnecessary noise and becoming somewhat off-center. I remember hearing that some of the people running Rs in Grand-Am were using some types of "straps" in the rear to keep the spring in place (sort of like the "helper" springs in high-dollar suspensions). Since I haven't seen any of the pictures, I'd imagine that this would involve some type of tether between the vehicle body and the lower spring perch which would limit the extent to which the suspension "droops". ED

i think he means helper springs, like the ones that come with the tein kits.
ahhh . . . . i see.
i don't know of anything like that available. i was kinda looking for some helper springs, but i only need them for the rear. the front springs 8" (the rears are 7", i believe) don't have any play when the car is lifted off the ground.
should i put 8" springs in the rear?

Yes, I'm only asking about the rear.
Not really a problem, just trying to eliminate a rattle and possibly maintain correct spring placement.
Though, it might also help add some weight to a corner which is beginning to lift off the ground (since I've been told I'd done that at the EXPO and during some of the canyon runs).

Why not make your own? All you need is some 2" wide nylon seatbelt material and a good fastener. We used to do it all the time on our sand rails to keep the wheels from drooping when hitting large jumps.
Oh, lol. You're referring to high tech zip ties. You can use big zip ties and drill a small hole in the upper hat, or you can just let it seat. It'll just make one pop. Doesn't bug me, but if you like, drill the top of the hat and zip tie the spring to it, or use safety wire, or something like that.
It's designed to reseat quickly, and really doesn't noticably affect the handling.

Zip ties or old seat belt webbing .... just about right!
One other solution I've seen somewhere is to make some type of little clamps to attach the bottom of the spring to the lower perch, and the top of the spring to the body/seat. Thanks Guys, ... still looking/waiting for any additional ideas, though.

Yes, seems Ground Control delivers this set-up with 8" springs as standard.
Seems one of the ideal solutions would be to have the piston rod shortened so that it could not extend any farther, but then it makes it difficult to adjust for height. Hence ... the lower rate helper springs found on adjustable height coil over set ups!
Overall, that just one of the shortcomings of such a set-up (same thing happened when I put shorter springs in the back of my 1st Gen CRX, i.e., the rattle ... an adj. panhard rod helped, but the essential problem's still there).
I still haven't cut the bumpstops and re-cornerweighted, but will have something done before the test session at Deal's Gap at the end of October.
At this point, the Mugen Low-downs are looking better and better, ... maybe even Apex'i or other harder-core stuff!!

ed, the 8" comes standard? really? i got 8" in front and 7" in back, but then again, i just ordered my own rates and they sent me those lengths . . .
definitely cut the bumpstops before the deals gap run. that's probably where all of your problems are coming from (bounciness).
the lowdowns do look good! i like having the height-adjustability, though.

hrm, t00 bad I didn't pick up the A'pex coil over during the parking lot sale. $650, although that was for the WS COs. Since the N1s are about 11F/6R, I wonder if it'd still work well if I changed the front to about 7k?
yoshi - who's still researching sus set ups

I'd had some H&R (actually turned out to be Eibach) sport springs on the stock shocks, and I liked the way it was working (vs, stock springs). However, I'd had a load of miles on the car and it became apparent to me that the shocks may not be what they one were. So I went with the Bilsteins as a replacement for the stock shocks. I delivered my car with a ****-load of parts to be installed at a mechanic's that I trusted, and when it came around to doing the suspension he calls me up and tells me "we have a problem"....
... the springs (Eibach Sport springs) were either too short (or too long for the Bilstein "stock" Bilstein set-up), so I called up GC and had them 2nd day a coilover kit and a set of springs. .... ....
So, I'm still trying to figure out what springs, sway bars, and ride heights work for what I'm presently "stuck" with. It's just annoying, though it does give me a chance to "experiment" a little bit, but I'd rather do that with the CRX and not my R!

zygspeed: i have been debating on this set-up too. I think I may save a bit of $ up and get the zeal b6s.
can you get custom spring rates from zeal/endless usa?
i was looking at the base model zeal, the zeal B, which is just height adjustable - for $1000, it looks great. i may go with those next...
ed - i have no complaints with my GCs, i have used them on my last two cars, and they've been great. they've been working great with my konis. but, then again, i DID trim my bumpstops . . . LOL.
