Get an ITR or No?
MY GSR was stolen. More info here --> https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=688577
The question is, too hunt for an a CW ITR or no?
I would like to get a new appartment with a garage (a real one!) so it will be safe at night. I'd get an alarm with a pager, kill switches, and probably the GPS type tracking.
I don't know what to do. I could probably get one with the insurance money. It's always been my dream/goal but after this I'm quite shaken up
.
Comments/Suggestions?

After seeing the pics of your car after it was found, your first priority should be the new apartment/garage THEN a car. Just realize, ITR is a bigger target than a GSR.

Yeah right, with the insurance check from a stolen integra. Unless you want a fatty monthly payment, I would get a beater for now and save the rest for something better!

I would say get a place to live first with the accommodation for a nice caR...
After settled in then you can think about getting an R, but Like everyone said Its a big magnet for trouble and if this is to be your only car then I'd say forget it and get something alittle less wanted.
Hate to be the bad guy and say don't but if you can't provide a safe home for it then don't.

If I got something else then I wouldn't be able to talk with the cool H-T ITR guys
Making sure my future car has a garage is my main priority like you guys said.
Thing is i'm going to pay for the car upfront w/o any loans so that makes my choices limited. If I start to save any money it will be for a down payment on a house.

In the order of importance:
1. Move into a new apt or house w/ beefier garage.
2. Get a beater before you get an ITR.
3. Bring home an ITR and insure it as a pleasure vehicle.

I would ask yourself a few questions first. (1)Where are you going to be living? If in any urban area or even small city then i would reconsider. (2)Are you positive that you will be able to park it in a garage. Anymore that is so key, i mean even garaged R's are being broken into. (3)Is it really going to be affordable. Have you looked into what insurance is going to be? Its really steep for most. If its feasible, safe and you can do it, i say go for it. Good Luck, and if you want a CW one i would start looking now. They are the more rare ones to find it seems.

That kind of pisses me off. I'm not some nub who is like should I get an ITR or a Neon.
I have much respect for ITR's and that is why I asked. I like the car so much that I would rather not own one if I thought it would get stolen.
You live in Japan, I'm sure the theft rate for an R is lower than it is here.
I also thought I lived in a good area. I mean come on there are 6 StarBucks with in a mile radius. I also live about 3 blocks from a Police Station.
I know you gave me your opinion and I asked for that so I can't get too pissy. I just wanted to know if you guys thought I'd be alright w/ the precautions I was planning to do.

If you live on the southside (Tacoma, Renton, etc.), nearby the U-district, or the northside (Lynnwood) I wouldn't buy one. Heck, actually, the whole metro Seattle area is a bad place to keep an R safe. (Maybe ok on the eastside, if your house has gates.)
Most big westcoast and eastcoast cities have theft rings that target Honda/Acura vehicles (+ others). So, it's not like theft is less on other cities, but the westcoast has it pretty bad (+NY/NY).
If you plan on daily driving your R, don't get one. It'll probably get jacked. My buddy has an S2k and he has no problems in the rain. That's what I would get if I still lived in WA state. Plus, they can be had for low $20k for MY '00, '01.

the only difference between us is i got a gorage space and a beater
if u gotta park it in a lot i say by a beater jsut so u can park it behind your R

So your gsr gets stolen and you want to buy an even hotter target for thieves
Find a place with a garage before you go buying an ITR or you'll be in the same situation.

Not necessarily. My stock-looking GS-R was broken into in a gated apartment building parking garage on the eastside and nearly stolen, and I had 4 OZ Superleggeras with S03s mounted stolen from my storage unit...
Forgot to add. In my opinion, if you want the car, go ahead and buy it, just realize it has a decent chance of being stolen and mentally prepare yourself (And save all receipts for any aftermarket parts so you have some chance of the insurance adjuster including that).

See how different your opinions are? This is why I asked. I know in the end I'm going to make the choice and it was kinda silly yo make this thread.
It really depends if I can get that town house w/ the garage or not. I'd walk to school b/c it's practicly next door. The ITR would never get spotted by thieves then.(least at school, which is where the first attempt was)
Anyone want in the Bellevue, WA area want to move into a townhouse? 2 bed to bath
Nooooo. Don't do it

If you are going to be living near college kids, then I suggest you don't get it. Town house with a garage or not. You are most likely going to bring it to your local hang out spots and what not, which means people will see it. Not bringing it to school is a good idea, but if it's going to be your only car I think you should think about it more.
Sooner or later the same college kids are going to notice you and your car. They'll get jealous and follow you home, to work, to a friends house. Doesn't matter you could have a boot on each wheel and it won't stop the flatbed.
Get one after college. It will either get stolen or hated on. It's not worth buying it if you can't drive it and enjoy it.
My bro's 2001 Accord is what I drive to school. R just sleeps at home.

I know I really need to get a beater and garage first
It's just when you can finally get something you've been wanted for so long and then you realize it's not the right time. Then you wonder if there ever will be a right time.
