Im interested in buying some used SRP pistons for an extra d16y8 block im slowly building on a real tight budget but im worried about the piston to wall clearance being too loose. What are other peoples opinions or experiences on stock bore pistons in blocks with a hone to clean up the bore. If I remember correctly from the last time I looked at my block(its at a friends garage) the cyilinder walls were really clean with a clear crosshatch but there was some very slight oxidation forming at the top of the cylinder walls from sitting a while but it looked like something that a light hone would clean right up. I am also worried about the pistons having possible wear from being used. Im wondering what the odds are of clearances being acceptable under these circumstances. Having to bore the block and buy new pistons will double the cost and time it would take me to get rods and pistons from what it would cost with these used pistons since I can build the motor myself if no machining is required. TIA!

 

I was in this position.. we are getting the block prepped for a 20 over bore and hone, don't mess around.. start with a fresh wall and do it right. It's not that expensive, and you need to have a shop press in the wrist pins anyway.

 

Yea thats what im leaning towards, anyone else have a different experience?

 

I went with stock bore, and even though everything measured out..still lots of piston slap and now I am re sleeving...I would recommend at least .5mm over, then you are guaranteed a perfect fit.

I used 81mm Arias pistons on my old B18C1. I did notice an increase in noise, but Arias pistons are known for being noisy in comparison to other forged pistons. All in all they worked fine and took the constant beating of 12 psi from my JRSC
