lookin into b20/vtech build and swap and need some info
Ok as i stated i am looking into doing b20/vtec swap in my 91hatch,i have been searching and trying to gather the most info possible on what machine work is needed to be able to run vtech right since obvieously the b20b or b20z is not built to be vtec from factory.plus i am wondering which would be better i love the idea of turbo ,but since my friend recently blew
the motor in his turboed gsr i am affarid to go turbo knowing all the problems he has had from it.I read that all-motor is better way to go for longer life of motor if tuned right although i have read the same for turbo or supercharger.anyways would it be better to go with b20 block or buy gsr block which my friend now has up for grabs weather blown or not i had already had plans to have resleeved and any other major/helpful machine work needed.

If you are going to resleeve no matter what, go with the gsr block.
And its VTEC not VTECH so you may want to fix that before everyone starts jumping all over you for mispelling it.

i run a b20 vtec in a 90 si hb. read my sig. but it pulls like you won't belive. i haven't got it tuned yet and it is sick. people think b20 vtecs are short term engines but you have to respect its limits. its not a high reving block and the design of the sleeves are differant from all the b-series. it was a flaw in the design and you have 3 options: avoid the block all together, respect the weakest links, or sleeve it. theres people that stick 12.0:1 & up cr pistons on stock sleeves and never have a problem, people that rev to 9k everyday with no problem, and same goes for the oposite. i did my home work stayed under 11.5:1 and bought small **** like the endyn breather kit (which release madd crankcase pressure). that much more pressure on the sleeves thats not there. i also got a msd knock alert. detnation is leading cause of cracked sleeves. i built my engine to last. evenually im going to sleeve it but $$$$$ is the issue. i layed down 169 ft of rubber in 2nd gear today. thats on falken ziex tires, a passenger, and a speaker box with full interior. i rolled out in 1st gear, got on it at 2k shifted @ 6k and smoked em clean through 2nd. i love my b20vtec they make so much power. i shift at 8k even though jun 3s keep screamin for more rpms but i know its between saving my bottom end or feeding my cams. good luck with your ride.
