Default My new toys

Inspired by Omniman's b20vtec, this is the birth of my b20vtec build. Just picked up these parts from LA over thanksgiving, thanks Vtecvoodoo and Agent#one, great sellers. Going to school right now, so Ill have to wait until finals are over to get started.

Motor:

Gsr portflow head
Dynamic autosports Cam
stock b20z bottom end
ITR tranny
hondata
bunch of other boltons

8k redline, hopefully w/ gobs of torque. Not a race car, just daily driving. Looking at just over 10:1 compression. Aiming for 200hp... Let me know what you think

thanks man, I hope by keeping the stock sleeves at 84mm, compression low, and revs under 8k, they won't crack

what kinda cams are those? what do you plan to do with the valve/piston clearance?

let me know if you make it to 200whp, you just might inspire my ***

everything in the pic costed me about 3k, buying stuff used definitely helps the budget, just make sure you are getting them from respectable sellers. ALso, keep in mind theres many more small things that Ill need.

Im planning on running portflow valve springs w/ stock retainers. These cams are the same ones omniman used to make 220+ horsepower on his stock sleeves/ stock pistons b20vtec. Hope I can get close to that

the fact that i already have a ITR tranny and b20z block will help.... but i was lookin for more info on the cams and clearances... and i know that omniman was also well over 10:1 with his "stock" block. im pretty sure he got over a full point of compression.

anyway good luck

Omniman's setup is at 10.7 compression. Ill be at around 10.4, so pretty close.

the cams aren't for sale to the public just yet. But from talking to omniman, they seem to work very well. Their size is somewhere between the stageI and stageII cams you see elsewhere. So running ITR valvestrain or better will be fine.

Regarding the clearance, goto ef-1.com, I read a thread there couple days ago about cutting the valve reliefs down. It was a writeup w/ pics, great help for me.

are you gonna have a machine shop do it? my main concern about doin this to your pistons is the amount of material removed. it will greatly affect the rod/piston balance for each cyl. if you have a machine shop do it they can take the material off and them balance them afterwards.

with that compression and the cams, you should be able to get close to your goal. I was running a stock bottom end with a GSR head and JUN III cams- hit 207whp and 153wtq. We ran the crap outta the motor, and went above 8K almost every time we drove it. She's still going- Have fun!!!!

thanks for the encouragement guys,

yes, Im going to try to take a dremel to the valve pockets on the pistons (very carefully).

Using a gsr crank reduces the stroke, I would think that will give you more clearance but less compression if you retain the b20 rods

no I have not picked up the dynamic cams, Ive talked to omniman about them and he says they should be out soon w/ very competitive pricing

yeah, it seems like these 2.0L's like big cams, junIII's are great, but I think Ill give the dynamics a try. Ill definitely let you guys know how it turns out in the future.
