Default Overheating and rpms going crazy

Me and my freind were about to goto work at ups yesterday. When we got in his car and the rpms were going crazy. They were going from 1k to 2k just bouncing. Then we left to work and his cars temp gauge was at the hottest it could get. He has a 94 lx accord. I was wondering if it could be his fast idle valve bc i know that was rusting out last time we checked. This just started happening ever scince fl got cold. PLease help.

check to see if he has coolant...this sounds like it is probably the problem...since coolant flows through the fiv, the lack of would make it surge like this...it would also be the cause of the overheating...it could be your thermostat stuck closed as well (if your coolant is filled like it should be)...

Same problem in my car, coolant is leaking through blown head gasket. Need to get that fixed. Making a custom turbo and intake manifold so when I do all that stuff I'll just do the head gasket.

i'll say do it now, wait and your head would warp if you overheat it couple more time. and it's better to install it while the car's still N/A, let the head gasket sit properly then crank up some boost

I think this is happening bc the fans dont come on unless he turns on ac. When ac is on it dont overheat.

fans are not going to cause the temperature guage to go all the way to the top...ac doesn't have anything to do witht he cooling part of your motor either...it's a seperate pump driven by the motor...check the thermostat to see if it's stuck closed...

Pull the radiator cap and check the coolant level. Low coolant = idle surge and overheating.

Once you find the radiator is low (you will), you need to find the leak. It is probably a radiator or a water pump.
