Repairing the R... what should I do?
Hey, people. I'm sure a lot of you saw my post where my beautiful R (#1121) was hit by an RX-7. Now what I need is help in deciding how to fix it without using bondo. I have already sourced a bumper, rear valence, and tailights. The only other problems I have are: the rear quarter panel is messed up pretty badly and the hatch closes between 1/4 and 1/2 an inch too high.
I believe the problem with the hatch can be fixed with some adjustment, but I need to know the best way to fix the rear quarter panel. Can it be bent , should it be replaced, or can I cut the bent part off and find the same part in a junkyard and weld it on. I don't know, I've never had to mess with bodywork this extensive before.
Also the panel is bent into the trunk compartment and the really big plastic panel has been knocked loose. Let me know what you think.
Here's the pic again.
PS: If this needs to go to the tech forum, sorry, somebody please move it.

I'm not a fan of most body shops, they typically just straighten it somewhat and slap on some Bondo and some paint. I'll see what the insurance is willing to do before I take it to a body shop.
insurance will of course send you to a body shop. but you can tell the technition or adjuster exactly what you want done, how you want it done, and it'll get done. doesn't your acura dealership have an off body shop as well in your town?
for example: our acura dealership here is called Falconi's Acura, and they have a body shop called Falconi's Body shop. it is where the dealership actually has thier cars' bodies worked on if needed, or customer ect. i can't be happier with these guys at Falconi's Body Shop.
i do understand where you're coming from though, i'm very weary of who touched or works on my car. i think we should all be, do a little shopping and find a body shop that looks 100% legit and trustworthy to your eyes.
if you're not going to have some sort of body shop fix the quarter pannel, the only way to get it looking normal is to replace ever bit of it, and it's a pretty big piece.

wrong way to go about it IMO, it's an ITR. i'd try to put it back to factory spec

i would say if you don't know a bodyshop, asked your acura dealer for any recomendation, go there and asked if you could look around at the kindof work they do, not only finished jobs but jobs that they are currently performing. so this way you could see how they fix cars, you could also aske other H-T members that are in your area for any recomendations. and once you decide where to take you car. go and visit them every now and then to see how your car is doing. but don't be a buggaboo to the shop so they don't get pissed off and do a lousy job.

Well, I just spoke with the insurance guy, and he directed me to an adjuster and since it is a rare car, I will get to tell him how I want it to be fixed and then take it to whoever I want to to have it fixed. So, does anyone happen to have a rear quarter panel for an integra.

Yes, the entire car will be getting repainted.

if the insurance is paying for it..
i really would not try and look for the parts your self and i defenetly would not use used parts. my advice is take it to a reputable body shop have them order new parts from acura.
taillight, bumper, rear valance, quarterpanel, and interiour panels. non of the expense is coming out of your pocket so why deal with the headache. let the bodyshop do everything for you, plus used quarter panel will probly have some kind of damage to it. might as well fix your old one than replace it with used.

I may very well have to go with a new quarter panel, but as for the bumper, I have a friend with one in great condition just sitting around, and I've already ordered the JDM tailights. The insurance is going to write me a check, then I can do with the car what I want. Personally I see no problem with using used parts as long as they're in good shape. I don't think it would be hard to find an Integra that was wrecked on the passenger side and even if the drivers side quarter panel is dented, it can be fixed. I'd like to get out of this with as little expense as possible so that maybe some left over cash will be in the workings. Thank you anyways.

Just because Acura uses the bodyshop, doesn't mean that it's good. I had some work done through a local Acura dealership's autobody shop and the work was shoddy at best. I wouldn't go back.

first off
BONDO = .......a filler made by a company and thats the name of it .........its only a NAME........
The proper term for it is body filler and in-case you haven't done your research here are some hints for you
NOTE** dents are usually pulled out before filling so there isnt no need to worry about thickness of the filler
-------metal filler = contains small metal particles inside the filler to make it harder and more durable. usually used to patch panels after welding and for mostly old cars for restoration
-------regular filler = used to fill dents
-------glazing fillers = used for very small areas and to finish fill
well this isn't all the fillers that are available but are some types......
in-case you also haven't know, if you weld a new panel on there is gonna be more filler involved in it then just fixing the dented parts.........
all body shops usually have a 100% lifetime warranty on there work so don't worry to much about it....... either way filler is not a bad thing there are company's that make very good products and as long as the work is done right then there shouldn't be no problem with it right
also if you wanna know where i get my info from
