uh guys, I just drove/rode in a Viper....I am amazed
I have always been one to believe that revs and technology can beat pure displacement. I was proven wrong today. I came back from NOPI and went to my parents business. While I was there, someone noticed that I was looking at SCC and Turbo magazines. Well all he tells me is that my type R would be better for SCCA autocross rather than drag racing. I ask him what he has and all he says is a white dodge. I figure it's probably a Neon since he said a Civic tried to race him. Well turns out, it's a 95 viper rt/10. He let me drive it around the parking lot. The clutch is on or off (racing clutch) , the visbility sucks and the gearshift isnt nearly as smooth as I would like it to be and the throws are too long but man, a stab at that throttle is like VTEC kicking in times 2 and that's at 1500rpms! Then he took me out while he was driving and full throttled it. For the first time in my life, I was overwhelmed by the shear power of an automobile.
In conclusion, I feel like I need more torque in my car but I would still rather get a NSX (esp. the rumored new i-VTEC V8!) or a M3 for that price and get torque plus revs plus control plus refinement etc..... Also, I want to control the car and not the other way around. Even the owner was scared to hit the throttle for fear of fishtailing. But I am definately more of a believer in torque than I used to be!

As far as torque goes... let's just say that after friving Honda's for years, even a V6 Pathfinder amazes me. Only if integra's came with 3.5 VTEC.
he's right you know, your Type R is better for SCCA Autocrossing than for drag racing...glad you got to drive a viper tho, that's a pretty unique automobile these days.
I totally agree. The gearshift, seating position, and the pedals were all rather poorly designed. The Viper I feel like exists simply to justify the engine.
Oh yeah, of course I know that my type R is more for autocrossing than drag racing but i can try right?
Actually guys, I hate to say it but I am thinking about trading my type R in for a WRX or a used S2000
