Default Wow this might actually be a questin that has never been asked

A while ago i was in my friends car and it's a civic with b18c jdm type r with IHE, anyways the car has a Act 6 puck racing clutch, i asked him to let me drive it and he says that i can't because i won't know how to drive on such an aggressive clutch.

My question is how do you drive racing clutches? are they stiffer, softer, i mean i thought driving stick was driving stick no matter what,

I mean how much harder could it be, i've been driving stick for years now please someone shed some light

Clutch is just more "sensitive". Give gas as if you would normally (about 1.5k-3k rpm range) then let go of clutch slowly. It'll initially grab faster than normal clutches so the "sensitivity" is there.

I have a 3 puck clutch and it essentially turned into an On/off switch. It takes a little while to get used to, because you dont have the extra room to play with.

stock clutch material is made of fiber material that slips upon engagement of the flywheel....thus allowing silky smooth honda-typical engagement/acceleration.

puck style is made of metal. will not slip as much...easier to stall motor or smoke tires

In normal street driving aggressive clutches can become tiresome. Invariably you will kill the engine occasionally. This can be embarassing, but maybe he's insecure, maybe you will be able to pull it off better than him, maybe he doesn't want to risk that.

on a unsprung disc the springs are not there to absorb the shock of the pressure plate pushing down on the clutch disc.

engagement is almost instantaneous as everyone was saying on/off switch.

Basically with the full race clutch you are either fully engaged or not engaged, though off the launch u can ride/slip the clutch. This is why some people say not to daily drive on a race clutch because they wear out faster.

If you can drive stick, you can most likely drive with a race clutch with some practice.

If you asked me to drive on my race clutch is what my face would look like.

On a side note, I find my clutch pedal to feel wierd after i let someone drive who is not so good at driving stick

Race clutch = chatter chatter and more chatter. I had one and I changed it just because of chatter. U had to be on your feel with that clutch all the time, u had to know what gear u are in match the rpm and gently let it out. At one point I decided to see what happened if i just drove it like a normal clutch. I was shifting from 2 to 3 at like 3.5k the clutch engaged so hard i felt it through the whole car, and my glove broke, the damn hinges ripped out, now i don't have a glove box and if i want one id have to replace the whole dash. Race clutches are for racing, racing only.

Haha i learned on a ACT street disc (assuming stage 1). It's a lot easier to stall and harder to push but It has the gi joe kung fu grip.

i abosulutely hate my clutchnet stage 2. do yourself a favor and get a comfortable clutch unless you're heavily in to drag racing. driving in traffic is miserable, and most people stall the car when they first try to drive it

the 6 puck owns...it is very sensitive, so when u let the clutch out u need to have a lil higher RPMs when shifting rather than stock...when u let the clutch out it catches and if u dont have enough gas it will jerk back and forth and if ppl are watchin they might laugh and say he cant drive worth Sh@#

perhaps i just don't understand what "owns" about having to basically drag race the car from every stop light (lots of rpms so it doesn't stall). anyone care to fill me in?

I had to keep it at like 3k so there was no chatter, but that way the clutch wears out really fast. I drove maybe 5k and took that **** out, I alredy had a noticeable grove in my flywheel and disc, from the looks of it the clutch would last 15-20k. That's not long at all for a clutch. That's why it's race only.
