another CODE 14 thread
I did find some helpful info searching but i would like some more please
car- 2000 honda civic ex 5spd
Ok here is my story my car threw a code a couple days ago, so i reset the ecu to see if it would come on again. A day and a half later it did, so i pulled the code and it was CODE 14, which is the iacv. The car's idle will surge from 1k to 1.5k.
I need help
Should i replace it?
Should i clean it and see if it fixes itself?
Also will it hurt the car if I still drive it in it's current condition?

emerika helped me out with mine...
pull off the intake and inside the TB there is a vacum hole. plug that hole to see if it idles the same. if does than its not your iacv its a vacum. also unplug your iacv and see if the idle returns to normal, but if you cleaned your iacv it could be vacum or you just might have a faulty iacv.

Try hooking the IACV directly up to the battery with the car not running. If it clicks it works...............If not you need a new one.

Clean it before installing it. Also you dont need to replace the o ring if it is not cracked or torn. If the black part was cracked on your other one that could be your problem. Install the new one and let us know the results.

i got the same damn problem...
i got the same damn problem...
I have the same problem, but I also have a helms. code 14 doesn't necessarily mean that your IACV is bad. You have to troubleshoot to find the real culprit. According to the helms flow chart the fact that your idle is above 550rpm says that it probably *isn't* the iacv. You most likely have one of the following problems :
1) tps is bad
2) vacuum leak
3) bad idle
To troubleshoot, do the following:
1) remove intake hose going to throttle body. There is a hole inside of the throttle body that feeds air to the iacv. place your finger over it. If the engine dies or significantly drops in rpms then you do not have a vacuum leak and you need to adjust your idle. If it doesn't change then you have a vacuum leak and need to find it.
before adjusting the idle, check your plugs, air filter, etc.

Yep, there is a hole. I have one on my 98ex, have the same hole on a gsr tb that I have lying here. If you are looking directly into the tb, the hole should be on the upper left side for a 5-spd.
