Is my fuel pump going bad? Here's the symptoms.

My fuel pump just starting making some strange buzzing whining muffled sound when i turn the key to the on position. A couple of times it didn't make any noise at all and the engine was just turning over.

Any input would be nice.

a little noise when you turn the key to ON is normal. It's just priming up.

It used to make a little noise when priming but now it makes aLot of noise.
Doesn't sound right. Sometimes no noise at all.

Maybe its your main relay!

I vote for a bad pump. A bad main relay wouldn't cause the pump to get MORE noisy.

How about a fuel filter that's gotten plugged up? Then even a good pump has to work extra hard against a blocked filter. But that doesn't explain why sometimes it just doesn't run at all.
