Ok sorry that this is a little of topic but the CRX forum doesn't allow pics
and I didn't want to drop this in the General Discussion forum. If it needs to be moved so be it.
Not actual car (couldn't link autotrader pic), but this is the same year just imagine it being red (paint is new).
Actual interior
Anyway its a 1985 CRX Si. First year for the Si and fuel injection in a CRX. Weighs in at 1,890lbs (lightest Si made) with a monster 91hp 1.5liter. Yeah it doesn't have double wishbone, but I've already got the R for that. I've got the guy holding it for me presently (he's still letting other buyers look) until I can get everything together and go get it if I definitely decide I want it. I figured it be fun to have something old school and being of different design I can learn something new from it. I'll probably just slap on some integra brakes and new shocks if the current ones are worn leave it at that. The pimp factor is already too high as is
He is currently asking $1,300. It has been stripped down and is rust free (was a rust spot but that was cut and new panel welded in), no leaks (engine or interior), decently new paint job, tranny doesn't grind or pop out of gear, new clutch and timing belt 10,000mi ago, AC supposedly works but no belt, heater works well. Doesn't smoke or burn oil. Problem areas are right CV joint clicks when turning and the power sunroof switch has to be messed with for it to work. I also have to drive it 800mi to get it home, but that's just time to get acquainted.
What do you guys think. Too much?

Really? I thought him stripping it to check for rust was a good thing? Besides that it hasn't had any work.
I personally would be weary paying 2k for a car with a swap if the swap cost more than the asking price. Not saying his car isn't good, but a low price like would make me question alot of things.
What would you guys offer for this CRX?
< is finding out nobody likes these cars.

I think 1300 is a little steep for an 85 w/200k on the clock. But from how you describe it , it does sound like a 1000 dollar car. I also think 800 miles is a long test drive to see what it needs... But I like those cars so
to the crx taking abuse the R doesnt have too

I read it briefly and mistook 'stripped down' as meaning it was literally stripped and rebuilt.

No he just stripped the interior to check for hidden rust.

i bought my 85 hf for $700... but it needed a little motor work.. good car though. it only made it 15 miles before it blew up and became the race car
also depends on location...
here in houston, 1300 for that isn't that bad. But not a steal either. Worth buying if it's a solid car.

ive bought 3 of those in the last year, never paid more than 300 for either, they are out there cheap, just keep looking. on the other hand i sold a cherry one for 1500 so it all depends on your situation i guess.

I would just get a badass mountain bike.
Coming from experience, I drove a beater for 8 months. I got really tired of it because it needed new parts. Spend a little bit more and get an EG Si or something.

******* love CRX's, awesome car.
If Honda ever re-released the CRX, I'd buy two and keep one in storage until the other completely died at 400k miles
As far as the price is concerned, **** it, if the car is worth $1300 to you, that's all that matters... For a rust free CRX, I'd say well worth it

Look some more. And no offense, but you waited pretty damn long to find a beater. The snow has already flown a few times where I live.
I was lucky enough to find a beater in late october. It's a 1991 Honda Accord LX. 242k on the clock. Doesn't burn oil or leak or anything. It runs beautifully. All it needed was a valve cover gasket, which costs 10 bucks.
I've put 1,000 miles on the car and it's still running PERFECT. The R is in a mine in a 70 degree controlled climate. The temp is always 70 and the humidity is always 60%.
Getting a beater is the best investment I've made. Sure I coulda put 1,000 bucks of mods onto the R but then I would have had to drive it in the salt and ****. Winter is hard as hell on a car. I smile every cold morning when the snow is in the air, because I know my R is safe and sound and nice and warm.

I live in the southern part of Alabama. It doesn't snow. The car will be used to commute to work on a few days and to drive around when the R is getting worked on.
