water and CAI????
i was washing my car after putting the intake in the night before, and then i went to wipe under the hood and get all the water sitting there in between the hood and the engine and i saw my filter had water ontop of it! i think when i was rinsing off my headlight it got some water under it and it went straight on to the filter. i put a towel over the filter just incase before i started washing. got any advice on trying to keep the water from coming in from the front somewhere or under the headlight? thinking about getting some tape and putting it on the seam under the headlight. and being more careful next time i wash my car in that area. looking for some advice on this. thanks
If you have a bypass valve, don't worry about it. The engine doesn't create enough vacuum for a few drops to be a factor. You only have to worry if you immerse the filter in a deep puddle and absolutely stand on it - that is if you have the valve.
If you don't have a bypass valve, get one. You'll take a 1-2 HP hit, but you'll have more horsepower than any hydrolocked engine out there. It's cheap insurance.

i have an AEM CAI and i wash my car everytime with it on. my wheel well lining has a big hole in it for some reason, and the filter is completely exposed. ive never had a problem with this. water reaching the filter during a car wash is very negligable.
you don't need to take it off. k&n cones are oiled heavily and repel any water that comes into contact. the oil doesn't allow the beads of water to actually pass through the filter. if you submerge it while it's drawing air, that's when a hydrolock is imminent. just wash your car, and don't spray that area directly, wipe it instead.
