Have you checked the float levels? If you don't have one, get a manual and check the procedure. It boils down to:
1) Park the car in a level place
2) pull the covers for the float sight glass(es)
3) there is a mark on each glass indicating where the gas level should be
4) if it's high, there is a screw adjustment for each float (varies per carb)

You NEVER should have messed with the converter

80% of the time is the seat is jammed or the needle not sitting right.

Once you work on a carb., you will just thanks whoever come out with EFI

Yeah, it's easy for the float valve to stick open, float bowl overfills & spills through the vent into the throat.

Back in the day... (guess I'm getting old). When injection was becoming popular everybody said "now you'll never be able to work on your cars again because injection is so complicated"...

</TD></TR></TABLE>What you need is a repair manual for your car. I've done it many times on a Hitachi DAF328 but that was a '72 Datsun. Each carb is different.

It's not about turning a screw. It's about taking the carb apart, cleaning it, & putting some new parts in.

That means it has a carburator. Three problems come to mind to cause to much fuel to be metered.

A bad float.
needle valve
choke pull-off diaphram
