Default 1gen teg engine in a crx? how hard?

is it bolt in and go since it's a d-series or is it not?

I ask because I've got a good titled 89 crx with a bad engine/cracked tranny case and an 88 integra with a GREAT running engine/tranny but it's an abandoned car so I can't get a title to it (not to mention it looks/smells like **** on inside haha).

I assume that all I would need is the linkage, engine/tranny, harness, ecu, exhaust downpipe, etc but is there any fab work or is it bolt and go??

the engine has a different mount setup then the d series in your 89.. it won't just drop right in there.. the trany will tho..

so what engine mounts DO I need?

anything else needed?? can't I just use the integra mounts on the crx chassis (even if I have to drill a hole or two or weld the crx mounting plates to the teg engine's brackets??

Way too much work for the low hp output of the 1st gen integra engine. You'd be better off putting a 90-91 teg setup in there, or if you just want the car for a beater, go find another D motor to put back in there.

yup, it can work, but not worth it, your better off trading a junkyard straight up for another d16a6 or something close to it

oh my god. I don't care about the work factor here. If I have to weld up a bracket or two I don't care. I'm talking about getting my damn car running with a free engine/tranny.

look, what all needs to be done?? I mean come on guys. Not everyone can afford a $500 engine. I had one fall in my lap so I'd like to use it if possible.

well not to many people have done that swap, i only know of 2 and they both ditched it already. One guy just made a custom mount for it, he said it didn't work great and he went through 2 axles before ditching it. the other i never talked to personaly. both said it was hard to get it to line up.. but if your determined to do it.. you won't find much support here.. its not a common swap. i've looked and found pretty much nothing.. good luck tho

The tranny will not mount up.........and you'll end up spending 500 or so just to make the custom mounts d16a1 is the odd ball of all the d series good luck.....

88-89 integra - ZC
90-91 integra - B18

so the 88-89 will most likely bult right up, but if you want the B series you just need the wiring harness and ECU and mounts.

Nothing from a first gen Integra will bolt up to an HF the end.

I hope you're not trying to say a zc and d16a1 are the same just because they share a lot of parts...they really are two different engines. And no, it doesn't bolt right up.
And you don't need a wiring harness for a Bswap...a 90-91 B18a is damn near plug and play on your stock si harness.
Quit passing out bad info.

That motor will work just fine, as long as you are putting a 1G CRX. 86-89 DOHC motors fit 84-87 Civics and 84-87 CRXs.

While that's correct, we're talking about an 89 CRX, not a first gen.

Stackz...if I were you, I'd take your free engine/tranny and sell it to 1st gen owner, use the cash to buy a sohc zc...$350ish and 118hp that actually bolts in.

no i'm not trying to say that, i know they are different, i just forgot what engine code it is so i said ZC because theyre similar. but they should bolt up with proper mounts.

Okay, I'll pretend for a minute you know what you're talking about...

1. Define "proper mounts". This guy is going to need to know. Which model mount for which location. All four please.

2. What about the tranny? The CRX tranny bolt holes don't line up with the d16a1. Use the D16a1 tranny? From what I've seen, and I may be wrong, but even the teg mount isn't anywhere close to bolting up to the crx bracket.

3. "Similar"...as in close, but not exact. Personally, I like to know my projects are going to fit instead of just being close to fitting.
Someone could say the "The B20b and the B20z are similar." because they are....I'd be pissed if I bought a B20b and later found out there's actually a 20hp difference.

I'm just trying to make sure the guy gets the right information...don't take this as a personal attack.

wow what a shitstorm I stirred up

ok, well...I've also got a 1st gen crx with a title...Just wanted to use the 89 since it looks better and the interior looks nicer IMO.

I can toss the teg engine/tranny into the 1st gen crx no problems???

what all needs to be done to get it working right? what all do I NEED to take from the teg and toss onto the crx?? OH Yeah...I think the teg has rear discs? can I toss them onto the crx too??

Do a search on one of the many crx forums out there, There are alot of guides on D16A1 to 1st gen crx swaps.....I think the rear disc brakes from the integra may fit but dont take my word for it.....

I know you get immense satisfaction everytime this comes up...but can you answer the questions/concerns I posted before. And was it worth it for 10 horsepower?

Ya it goes in, just some mount swapping around between the two. You can use all of the brakes off of the teg on the CRX. I just hope for your sake that the CRX is an Si chassis, otherwise I would forget about it.

i had to custom fabricate a tranny mount and 1 motor mount. Wasnt really hard at all, Just look at how its setup and u can use a regular mount just mounted different.

I know you said you cant afford another motor.

But you could sell that WHOLE teg or part it out on Redpepperracing.com and make more then enough money to get a z6.

I know you want the get the car running, but someone witha 1st gen CRX might be lookin for a motor and you might be able to get 500 for the engine/tranny alone and almost 150+ for the braking system.
