Default My teg is totaled, please help!

Hey guys, I don't post here much, but have been reading here for about the past three years. Just the other day I was driving along and someone decided to turn out in front of me and I couldn't stop in time and I hit them. Good thing is I'm okay and so is the other guy (even though he got out and started cursing at me ). He got a ticket for failure to yield and it's his fault, I have witnesses to prove it. My teg is totaled, damages came up to $6800 and the car was valued at $7800.

So I'm off to look for a gsr, but I'm wondering about some of the parts on my old teg. The shocks, springs, header, and a few other goodies cost me a pretty penny. How can I make sure I get them or get compensated for them. I gave my insurance company copies of almost all the reciepts, so they have proof. How can I make sure I don't get jacked over with aftermarket stuff? Is there anything else I should do or look out for? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks and drive carefully.

Vik

see how much the buy back is and buy it, then part it all out and you'll make money.

Hmm, never thought of doing that. Wouldn't buying it back be expensive, I'm guessing around 25-30% of the price of the car? I know someone who wants the motor and tranny, so I guess that would be a start. Thanks, keep the replies coming!!!

When one of my previous cars got totaled I had it towed to my house and stripped it down, took all of my aftermarket parts off and replaced them with all of the stock ones. As long as the car is in one piece and has all of the parts on it the junkyard won't care. All their going to do is make money off the car anyways

buy back is not that expensive and you can discuss a fair price to buy back.. My friend bought back his 96 LS teg that got front end damage for 700.. Took his parts and parted what he could and then had the junkyard tow it away for 50 bucks

Wow, thanks for the advice guys, I'll be sure to see if I can work something out with the insurance company. That buyback price sounds pretty good, and I'm sure I can part a lot of stuff out. I only ask because I just got my suspension and rims/tires a few months ago. Hopefully all will go well and I'll be able to swing a gsr, thanks again!

Sorry to hear about your car. I know how it feels, my car was totalled earlier this month.

About buying the car back...I don't know what insurance company you have, but I have State Farm and I asked about this. They said you have to be a licensed salvage dealer to buy the car...because what they do is sell the car to the salvage people and then I believe the car goes up for auction. I guess there may be a way to work around it, but I said screw it and just accepted my settlement amount and am now looking for a new car.

Also, about the aftermarket parts...I had a couple suspension things I had added and asked about being compensated for them and even though I had receipts, State Farm told me they do not match things dollar for dollar, blah blah blah. So I guess it depends on your insurance company.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Fubar - thanks for your reply and also sorry for your loss. What do you know, I also have state farm insurance. Someone told me about needing a liscense to do this, but I'll look into it, maybe it's different in Oklahoma? Hope you find a replacement and you're all right from your accident.

Pat - thanks for replying. Although I previously had an ls, I've always wanted a gsr. I'm not getting anything else this time. I was planning to take a route quite a bit like yours, (all motor with mostly oem parts and good headwork) but it seems as if you went to the darkside. If it's all right with you, I might e-mail you a few questions about your setup and so forth.

Thanks again for replying guys, sucks to see all this go down the drain, but I'm in one piece and that's all that matters.

acura95gsr - sounds good, but the header is for a non-vtec motor, so I'm not quite sure about the fitting on a vtec motor. If I can buy it back and part it out, I will let you know, but I don't know yet.

i had the same stuff happen to me. turned out i kept my motor and trans and most of the original car and switched it over to a shell i bought they gave me 6800 while it only cost me 500 to take most of the stuff out of the totaled car.
To make a long story short you can really take advantage of these kind of situations but it only works out if you yourself do most of the work.....

Best thing to do is keep your parts and ask your insurance company what they can do.

gsr2jdm - thanks for your help, hopefully I can buy the car back for a cheap price and part it out. A friend is already interested interested in a lot of it, so we might split the price and figure it out from there.
