D16a6 clutch opinions
So next season I'd like to get a new clutch for my '89 CRX Si.
I've heard good things about ACT and Exedy but I'm open to any other reccomendations. I'm not really sure what model I should get. It will be daily driven for the most part with some autoross action on the weekend. I'd like not to spend an arm and a leg. I've seen some Exedy clutches on ebay for pretty cheap but I think they are pretty much stock replacements. I'm not going to need anything too extreme. I have some basic bolt-ons (IHE) and a shaved and P&P head, I'm running 11:1 compression and looking to pick up a cam in the near future. Can you guys point me in the right direction? Any help appreciated, Thanks guys.

yeah, I dont know what year my tranny is. So if I get the 90-91 w/the corresponding flywheel it doesn't matter if the tranny is an '89 because I noticed there was seperate applications between 88, 89, and 90-91?
*EDIT* how do I tell what year my tranny is?

I'm a fan of the oem replacement Exedy units...I've installed 4 on my own personal cars over the last two years. Not one has given me a problem...they handle basic bolt ons just fine and still drive like stock.
I take that back...I did have one problem with the throwout bearing that came with kit I used in my 87 wagon. It didn't fit, wrong diameter. I think they just put the wrong TO bearing in the kit because I bought an OEM TO bearing and it worked fine.

i put a 90-00 stock flywheel and centerforce clutch in my 89 hatch. i got the clutch kit from http://www.nopionline.com for a very reasonable price ($200 i think). it is fine for an everyday driver since the pressure plate isn't too stiff. i am very happy with it's performance, plus the guys at nopi are very polite and ship extremely fast. act clutches work well too, just dont get a harsh engagement pressure plate since it is an everyday driver.
Get the 92-95 flywheel and get the clutch for the 92-95 its alot bigger than the 89 and also bigger than the 90-91. The flywheel can be easily picked up at the junk yard for 30-40$ and resurfaced for about another 30 (this is recomended for any clutch replacement).

i've got an Action clutch with a kevlar disc from Wil at Exospeed. it hooks up great. the pedal pressure is like stock. and with the kevlar disc its supposed to more or less never wear out. Wil also told me if you really beat on it, and heat it up a lot, it still won't slip. i've also got a fidanza flywheel which i love. it revs like a dirtbike now.
the d-series flywheels are the same size from 90-00. it is the 89 and earlier that have the smaller flywheel. the throwout bearing is the only difference between clutches from90-91 and 92-00.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but If someone is using a 212mm 90+ d series 7.5lb Fidanza flywheel on an '88 tranny with a ACT XTSS clutch and pressure plate, will it fit in my '89? (flywheel, clutch, and press. plate)

Agreed
Look at Bone's setup he's @ the bottom of the 13's with stock unit
After fixing everybody's blown up tranny's, wonder why Bone runs stock clutch???
