Default Looking for some advice.

Well I'm getting a car in about 3 months and I'm pushing towards getting a 95-00' 5-spd. VTEC. I have about 10k to work with buying a car and 2k to spend on upgrades. I was wondering what upgrades would be the most logical to purchase first. I'll probably get the basics first, cold air intake and exhaust first. But after that what would be the best choice, ECU upgrade, headers, pulley? Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Figure out your goals for the car as soon as you can so you don't waste any money.

I already looked over Todd's post. I'm not turning this lude into a full out race car, I just want some noticeable horsepower gains. I figured with 2k I can atleast add 30-50hp which is enough for me as of now.

No, they don't. Most USDM vtecs will top out between 135-140.

I don't suggest those speeds... although I'd be a hypocrit if I said I didn't hit them myself, or much higher.

Take a few days here on H-T, search a lot, do a lot of searches on ebay, and take some notes.

From the looks of it, I'd say a header, intake, exhaust and 50 shot of giggle juice would keep you happy.

That's what I'm talking about, lol. The only way I'd be able to hit those speeds is by forced induction or juice. After doing some minor add-ons, i'm looking at getting some new shocks and suspension.

You can pick up a 4G VTEC for under $10k. Spend the rest on a cai, 2.5" mandrel bent piping from accordinglydone.com, SMSP header, Teins, and some good rubber on a lightweight set of wheels.

i like my 4th gen. i heard the 5th gen's were heavier too. not too sure on that though. i paid 6k and got one hell of a deal. intake exhaust, right hand drive and a hell of a lot of jdm parts. all i can say is one persons downfall is anothers comeup. not to be mean or anything.

I am curious...have you driven either generation car yet??? If so...which one do you like more??

As far as upgrades go....I would say get a NICE header (don't think $1000 is a lot for one...because this mod is one of the best ones you can do), highflow 2.5" cat, 2.5" cat-back exhaust, Type S Prelude OEM airbox, suspension (I think KYB AGX and GC or Skunk2 coilovers are an excellent choice).

But since you have $2K to spend....I think upgrading the entire exhaust system is a GREAT ideas.

Good luck.

You should be able to find a prelude on teh east coast easily. Expand your search and don't be afraid to drive a ways.

you'd be surprised, i haven't had much luck finding any. Andy I haven't driven a prelude. But my dad's probably only willing to drive an hour away to check out a car. How much would it cost for full exhaust, some decent headers, cold air intake, etc.?

I looked for two years before I found my "perfect" Prelude. Even then I had to drive four hours to get it. But it was worth every mile and every penny.

1994 Prelude VTEC. Ran 14.70's stock, on stock tires. Of course, three months later I had it torn apart sinking $15,000 into it.. but that's a different story all together.

Don't rush it. Our cars are hard to find. When my ex-gf bought her second Prelude... we had to go to Georgia to get it... there were only TWO VTEC's in the entire state of Alabama for sale that we could find over a months period, and they were ragged out. And I looked almost EVERYwhere.

Take your time kiddo... it'll be ok.

Thanks a lot for the reconfirmation. My dad basically put it into respectable perspective, " Cars are like bubble gum, you'll fine right one". I'm sure I'll end up with something I need and will meet some underlying expectations of mine. But thanks again and I definitely will fill you in.
