Guys i need some serious explanation on Vtec.
I have a 94 accord ex, but im not sure when Vtec kicks in, but i do feel an extra push after 3500rpm. Does anyone know when Vtec actually kicks in and when Vtec stops. Please try to be as accurate as possible. Thank you and sorry for the dumb question, oh one more thing, what is the point of a Vtec engine, is it suppose to give more power, speed or something? Thanks
Usually it's going to be somewhere between 3500 and 4000 rpms. It stays in v-tec until redline and drops out below that range. The shape the engine and v-tec components are in will affect this.
The point of v-tec is to give a more even powerband by giving the motor a high rpm, and low rpm cam profile. This allows the motor to produce it's best power through a wider rpm range than a non v-tec motor.
This may help you. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question229.htm

I think you're way off. Where did you come up with these numbers?

The accord reaches peak power at 5,500rpm or thereabouts and the redline is around 6,250, so why exactly would the vtec engage after peak power has been reached and a few hundred rpm before redline?

somewhere between 2-3k, maybe it was 2500-3k, i forgot.
you should feel power peak at 4000-4400rpm because that is peak torque. 5500rpm is peak HP but it doesnt pull as hard as 4000-4400rpm where the peak torque is.
