theyre both great speakers, i sell both so my opinion is not biased. i do have the S600s in my car right now and my boss has focal 165k in his car. theyre different sounding speakers, the focal is more of a transparent detailed type of speaker. the cone on the mid bass is very light so it can keep up with the music at higher volume. the diamond is very smooth and detailed as well. i havent really heard the aluminum tweeter enough to give an opinion about it, but the silk one i can. one thing the speaker lacks is mid bass. it is possible to get some midbass out of it, but most cars cannot reach decent mid bass.

the shop i work at is out in pasadena if u wanna come down. i can demo them both for u.

IMO, you cannot lose with either. They are both nice component sets. I used to own a hex s500 set. I have also heard the focal set in demo rack, and in the car that atfkuk spoke of.

Why don't you look at getting a set of Boston Acoustic Z 6.5. My friend has a set of Focal 165W in his integra. They rock, especially if you have a good eq. The 165k2 are good. But IMO spend the little bit more and get the 165W or the Z 6.5.
An advantage to the bostons is that they run at 3 ohms instead of 4 so you will get a little more power to them from an amp.

Go with the Focals all the way man. I sell those Polykev's all day long. By far they are the best sounding that we have. And we had Boston, and also have JL, Alpine, Kicker but the Focals own our Board. The Polykev is about the best sounding Midwoofer I have heard. The tweeters are a little harsh but with a bit of tuning you can make em sound awesome. But after owning Diamond and Focal I would definalty shoot for Focal.

Thanks for all the replies!

What worries me about the hex are that the new ones are made in China, correct? The older ones were made in Germany and were better.

And the focals worries me because of its 3" mounting depth.
