are prm cai any good? i heard you cant hydrolock your car with it. its rains a LOT here in seattle so im kinda concerned about hydrolocking my car.

 

PRM uses a special sized K&N type filter inside the intake pipe so that the filter isn't the one that is sitting low waiting for water... Unless the intake has another way to take in air... if that passage is blocked by water.. it will suck it in.. but for real who drives their Honda/Acura through a puddle any higher then the bottom lip of their bumper. I love using my factory cold air setup, because if needed to.. I can remove the extension pipe from the air box, that alone raises the how deep i can go by over ten inches... but I'd never go through a puddle or flood spot of that size.

 

I know Seattle is notorious for long spans of rain, but does it flood. If you have CAI, flooding is what will hydrolock your car or if your a dumbass and take the splash guard off(I've known of a few that have done this and didn't know why it hydrolocked ). If none of this applies to you, then go ahead and put it on..no excessive amount of water will get in. But, if you are still not sure just get a Bypass valve(not sure if PRM makes one), they are not hard to put on.

i would buy a aem cai but people told me that even with the bypass valve, ill still hydrolock my car if i go over a puddle. hmmm...if the bypass valve wasnt built for these type of situation, whats the point of getting one?

 

Well in my area(Houston) around June we had some huge floods and I was at no alternative but to drive through almost 3 - 4 inches of water for about 5 minutes(my car was lowered at the time too) to get to a high spot and had no problem with water getting into my engine. I had no hydrolock or water getting in, only my o2 sensor and my spark plug wires got wet. Of course I had my Bypass valve on and consider myself extremely lucky, though I am not sure if it was my car's savior.
I think it all has to do with where you put the valve, some people don't put it high enough or in a clear enough spot so it can suck in the proper amount of air. Also remember that the filter must be completely submerged to cut off air to the intake for the bypass to open and pull in engine air. If it is only partially in the water it will more than likely suck in a bt of water, but I wouldn't think that it would be that excessive to hydrolock a car.

From what i remember ... SCC had a article on those AEM by-pass valve ..

they actually took an NSX .... running on a dyno ....
route the intake through a transparent pipe (so u can watch the water) ..
and submerge the filter into an tank full of water ...

and the water never went up the transparent tube over a feet ....

let me find the issue for u .. and see for urself ....

anyways .. it is an cheap insurance ....
