there isnt a time period when they go out. you replace them when thry are worn out.
will it be smoother in what terms?
soft as in alot of play?
or nice and notchy?

I put in the Energy Suspension shifter bushings in on my 1990 CRX Si and it did wonders...better/more accurate engagement when going through the gears. You'll notice a much more predictable and solid feel. The bushings I removed were the original rubber OEM's and had about 188k on them...they were well over due for a change.

i have the ES bushing kit for my shifter, I noticed very little if any improvement in my shifter.

I mean it was only like a 10 dollar mod so I'm not complaining that much.
