I have an 88 honda lude S that really sucks. I bought it for like 800$ from my uncle, who has a wrecker service. Well the point I have had all kinds of problems with it. It only starts 4 0ut of every 10 times. I usually have someone ride with me so I can push it off. Then last night it kept cutting off and would not start untill I jumped it off. What could it be it would go about 5 miles then the lights would get dim and would not start untill we put the jumper cables on it and let it sit and it would go another 5 miles then go dim and cut off. I just bought a brand new battery and alternator what could it be??

I'd be willing to bet 50 bucks it's your alternator. Did you buy your new one from Checker? Because those aren't new, and they really suck. I had two checker alternators crap out on me before I shunned them forever. But what's happening to your car is your battery is draining and nothing is charging it back up, meaning your alternator, for whatever reason, is not doing it's job.

 

well i have tried two now. you think it could be the wiring or the grounding or something like that

 

it could easily be a ground wire, or the wiring that has corroded or is simply loose somewhere.

If you weren't having the electrical symptoms, I'd also say check the fuel pump.
