what up all. just installed a new catback and the damn ******* thing rattles like ****. now i had previously taken off a few pieces of the heat shield but not all..im guessing thats the problem, in fact, i know that's it. so what u think? safe to take off the entire thing? on another note, it seems very strange to me that the exhaust seems to shake enough to knock up against the heat shield anyway. any thoughts on that? anyone else having this type of problem. i never had a problem like this with my old exhaust. just really driving me crazy. im def planning on ripping of the remaining pieces of the heat shield this weekend. i wanted to hear what you guys thought about the exhaust shaking the way it does though. btw im using the original rubber hangers...should i replace? they seem to work fine but just thought i'd throw that in. i wanna hear from you. thanks

My stock exhuast rattles way bad at certain rpm's. i'm sure its a heat shield problem alsom.. but i would like to see what others have to say.

 

All bolts tightened completely? It could be a heat shield too.

 

i just installed my magnaflow catback with all new rubber hangers and removed all the heatshields because they rattled like crazy...after the installation of the new exhaust i went for a test drive and i heard the exhaust knocking against something..it was the axel back poertion banging against the swaybar endlink...got a small piece of coat hanger and tied the hanger on the muffler to the hanger welded to the car to pull it away from the endlink...problem solved the exhaust doesnt go anywhere now..nice and sturdy...

make sure the piping isnt banging or close enough to anything under the car for it to hit...

 

mine did the same thing when i first installed it but the heatshield for the cat was about an inch away, i bent it further and no more rattle. just make sure its not w/in a close range, and your original rubber hangers should be fine.

 

thanks guys for the replys. im pretty sure its the heatshield, i already dremmelled and bent away an area that i knew might be a problem but it seems if im gonna have to take the entire thing off. no biggie. ill do that and hope it solves the problem. i didnt have any trouble installing it, and i know the bolts are on there very securely. any thoughts as to why the vibration and shake in the first place? it's like the entire midpipe is shaking down there...????

 

strange that it would hit the sway bar like that... did you buy a catback that is supposed to fit the teg? thats weird.

of course i bought a catback for a teg...and its not that serious as your trying to make it seem...the axel back portion that goes up over the axel was just a lil off to the right and would hit the endlink if i hit a bump or the exhaust was shook...

well if youre going to take off those heatshields make sure you dont park on tall grass
