Default Notifications regarding title changes...

Recently some of you have been concerned about the reason why your titles have been edited. It's for one reason, the sole purpose of my actions is to help make the search function more effective for current and future members of this community. So the next time you get a notification from me, DO NOT BE ALARMED. Don't worry about it, you haven't done anything wrong. If you look at the first page of the ITR forum in it's current state, this is what I've been trying to accomplish, but I cannot continue to do this forever cause I do not have the time nor would I want to. It's quite a time consuming process. It would be greatly appreciated if all members would put a little more thought and effort into their titles before they post a topic. Try to keep them short and concise. This will benefit everyone in the long run.

Any objections or things to add, please feel free to express your sentiments.

Example of it's current state:

what's the point in adding "OT" to a topic when you can't even search for "OT"?

LOL!! For example "OT: Mini Mini Update" Whether the title is OT: MINI MINI UPDATE or just plain Mini Mini Update, it's gonna come up either way in the search forum.

Many people add random words or catch phrases in their subject topics because it'll get more hits or replies to it. I, for one, say just leave them alone unless it severely offends someone.

Exactly. I can see the point of changing a thread topic from "yo check out my new *****" to "My new xxxxx header is here - review" or something.. but adding "OT" is 100% useless.

It's a way to seperate topics not directly related to the ITR whether it's technical or not. Does it really bug you that I added OT?

Yes, ... immensely, esp. since it makes no discernable difference and is actually quite juvenile and useless. IMHO.

It seems OK for someone to post something like a reply that uses rediculas flaming, profanity, off subject titles, etc... & nothing gets said. But when I was a newb @ this I get hammered for asikng a simple question & points deducted. What gives?

I think he was saying..

this is an ok reply: You are a complete ******* tool. Go cry me a river you stupid bitch *** *****.

Where this is not ok: How do I pop the hood?

At least, I think that's what he was trying to say.

what would help much more and require no work for a moderator is for the seach to work with thread posts instead of just thread titles. like every other message forum software under the sun.

yeah, that would help, but half the people on this site have a 2nd grade grammar and spelling level that would prevent that from working anyway...not to mention that a lot of people use shorthand, ebonics, internet lingo, and slang...

I actually prefer the search to use thead titles as to thread posts because
you don't have to weed through tons of posts one by one just to find some info.
This system is better imo, people just need to work on making precise titles to reflect the content of the post

That being said, and considering that you can't search words with less than three letters ... how does adding OT help (if the person searching can actually READ)?!?!?!

adding "OT" doesn't help the search, I just add it to distinguish it from the on topic threads. Now does that answer everybody about the adding OT thing sheesh

Hybrid ctr - *thinking* people like to pick at the little things instead of looking at the big picture
