I have a 94 Civic EX, the other day the styrofoam (sp?) piece that goes between the frame of the car and the bumper cover fell down a bit, so I removed it, now my car vibrates like crazy on the interior during idle, so I think I need to replace that styrofoam piece, however 2 friends insist that that little piece could've dampened that much vibration who's right? I dont want to pay for something I dont necessarily need. Does this piece soften the blow AND dampen frontend vibrations?

omg, I'm not trying to flame you or anything man, but use some common sense. There is no way that a piece of hard styrofoam that is between the from cross-member and the bumper cover could dampen sever vibration. I know that is not your problem, there has got to be something else wrong with your car. Like I said though, I don't want to sound like a dick or anything, I am just haveing a bad day today. I hope that you find out what is wrong with your ride.

 

How come none of this happened until I removed that piece then?

That I couldn't tell you. The only thing that I can think is that it is a fluke of some sort. The only thing that I can say is IMO that piece of styrofoam COULD NOT stop that kind of vibration. But you never know, that piece could support the bumper enough to stop vibrations from the cover. If you still have the piece, then try putting it back in and see if the vibration stops. I don't think that it will make a difference.
