silencer exhaust in the civic
For about 8 months or so i have been puttin up with this loud *** exhaust on my car(apexi n1 style muffler) well just today i decided to put the silencer on it and man that thing made it so much more quieter, i love it i can hear my engine now not the gases escaping. The thing is the silencer looks ugly to me and tacky, any of u guys agree with me on the silencer's but still have them on your car? post up a pic of it if ya want.
I have a silencer in my exhaust, because I got pulled over a few mos ago and the cop said my muffler was too loud and said I needed a silencer...so I threw it in. I can feel the restriction of power on the butt dyno, but its nice because it's still fairly loud at WOT but I don't have to deal with the buzz on the highway. My muffler is getting old though...i'll definitely be picking up a WS in the spring.
yeah agree, it just drove me insane listening to it driving 75 down the highway or down the street passing people and them staring at me because it was loud as hell. u got a pic bauley? i want to see the 4 door and the exhaust.

You are exactly right.............not two days ago i took my silencer out to hear what it sounded like. I couldnt handle it more then a day. I put it back in and realized that it sounds so much better with it in. You can definitely hear your motor a hell of a lot better and its just flat out a lot less annoying. When you downshift it feels like your in a tunnel and i hate that. Yeah the silencers are not the most appealing thing in the world but who cares.
sorry to jack the thread, but my silencer is such a tight fit it takes em along time to get it in or out.......i feel like im going to rip off the whole exhuast when im trying to pull it out

maybe u have a bunch of exhaust build up, i put my silencer in when i first had my car and it went in all easy then I put it back in like 8 months later and it was harder to put in because of all the crap that had builded up, but i just whipe it off and it went in. That or you could put some KY JELLY on there, just lube it up.
I know how u feel i drive my car everyday to work and i leave the silencer during the week but on the weekend i take it off, its like party time booya!!!
God you guys are so noise sensitive (excluding those that are required to deal with it like in cali). I have a 3 inch exhaust with a n1 and no resonator, no cat and certainly no silencer and it doesn't seem any louder to me than any of the other exhausts on the road. I don't know if being turbo has anything to do with it though.

You could try sanding the edges down...might make it easier to slide in.

You could try sanding the edges down...might make it easier to slide in.

No it doesn't.
The silencer only has to do with muffling which occurs in the muffler. Restrictions ar minimal. I have 2.5" piping in mine and can look straight down the muffler with the silencer and see 2.5" piping. What I'm trying to say is there is no bottleneck caused by the muffler.

IT HAS BEEN DYNO PROVEN THAT THE SILENCER WILL KILL YOUR POWER!
Now that I got that off my chest, I have seen silencers cause the car to loose as much power that it was comparable to the stock exhaust, +/- 1-2hp.

Spade Dynoed 114.5 with a silencer and 116 without one. But then again...the exhaust probably puts only 2hp to the wheels anyway
