Tweak's roundup of bug fixes for the Gs-R:
1.) If you are having trouble shifting, change the tranny fluid (Honda MTF), if problem persists, check the shift lever (where it meets the shift linkage) to make sure all of the bushings/washers are in place.
2.) CEL Code 6 ECT (engine coolant temp). This will cause the car to stay at "warm up" idle of 2000rpm. Ensure this sensor is connected (it's right behind the vtec solenoid).
free bonuses:
Bonus 1: Setting your Idle
Turn on the car and let it run until fully warmed up. Then pull the IAC plug (on the gs-r it's on the back side of the manifold, the plug is facing towards the ground). The car should drop to about 100rpms or even stall. If it stalls, start it back up, with the IAC unplugged and have someone hold the car at 1000+ rpm and then slowly let it down. You should then set your idle to ~500rpm and plug in IAC. If you car throws a CEL, it will be code 14 (one long flash, with 4 short ones). Just reset the ECU and it should go away (ensure IAC plug is back in).
Bonus 2: Starting trouble
If the car takes forever to turn over, check out your starter bolts. My top one had backed out...and thus my car took nearly a minute to turn over.
Bonus 3: Christmas gift ideas
HEADER HEADER HEADER. No other bolt-on modification will increase power like a header will. Go big, or go home. 99% of the time, you can not have a big enough header on the Gs-R. 2.5" collector is a must.
Bonus 4: Flywheels
Go the lightest possible you can. We sell, and I personally run, the Comptech Aluminum 6.75lbs flywheel. There are zero drivability issues with this flywheel. The car idles at stock rpms. But the rpm's accelerate oh so much quicker. Buying a flywheel, go as light as possible!
More tips later.
