You already have a good base engine to work with. Stick with it. Get some bigger cams, valvetrain, and boost the compression some. Match the cams up with some cam gears, some Hondata, and dyno tuning and you have a hell of a package. :]

Have you looked into forced induction? B16's respond very well to turbos and can be very reliable due to all the tuning options available today.
