Default grinding gears, short shifter problems....

Hi, I have a '00 Civic Si with a DC sports shortshifter. Lately ive been noticing that its a little hard to get into the gates and sometimes i cant get in at all and other times i grind the gears. Ive been grinding way too much lately, about 5 times this week.. Also, while the shifter is in gear, I am able to move it around left and right about half and inch both ways. Can anyone tell me how to fix this or what should i do to not wear out my gears? Any better shortshifters? thanks.

9 out of 10 times it comes down to timing....your throw is so much shorter, that you don't actually FULLY disengage the clutch, before you slam it into the next gear...

not so much how many times...but how high were your rpms, how much load was on the gears, and for how long....

there is no way to gauge it. it might take 1 time, might take 100.

if you don't have any probs, then don't worry about it.

most if the time its around 3 or 4k rpms shifting into 2nd or 4th, and only i think once it was going into 2nd while in vtec around 7k. only for like half a second, because i would realize my mistake and quicky put it back into neutral and I dont have many problems right now..

if you are not experiencing any problems getting into gears while shifting normally, don't worry about it

This is such a coincidence, today while getting on the freeway I chased this other civic(just playing around) and was at the top of fourth and then tried to shift to fifth and it wouldn't go into gear. I know I had my foot all the way down on the clutch pedal, but it wouldn't go. Finally, I tried again and it went in no problem. Unfortunately the other civic got away and thought he had dusted me. I am thinking the problem with my s/s is that the bushings are the wrong size, the guy I bought the shifter from gave me the wrong bushings. You might want to check those if nothing else.

So that was the problem? Good to hear that. As far as bushings I would get Neuspeed, just make sure their the right ones.

Hmm, im pretty sure that was the problem. But right now, I feel like replacing my shortshifter back with the regular shifter. The SS isnt that good. Can you tell me how? thanks.

You can also unbolt the linkage from the bottom and work your way up. I had to go from the bottom up because one of the screws on my center console would not come out no matter what, which would have probably been the easier way to do it.
