Rich or lean ??? before the engine goes boom!
Hey, hope everyone is doing well. My questions is, how accurate is a electronic air/fuel gauge??? My guage is saying that I'm running lean, but the damb car spits out gas? thanks for your help and support, her is one for the weekend.

spits out gas, eh ? I'd say that's a sign of richness. Never seen a car spit out gas though. Which wire do you have the signal wire hooked up to ?

autometer air fuel guage is useless.
Best way to tell how your much pressure your getting is with an actual fuel guage.
B&M makes a cheap one and it mounts up to the fuel filter under your hood.
If you have no cash then just pull your plugs and see how its burning.

I have the signal wire hooked up to the sensor connected to the down pipe, its one wire, then alittle further up it splits in to 2. I have a fuel pump i bought, but have not installed it yet . I am just using the afc II right now. The car hesitates some times when i'm in like 3rd or 4th gear about 4000 rpm and thats when it registers lean on the gauge. I have alot black soot on my back bumper???

i would say you need to take that thing to a dyno and tune the air/fuel curve. no way to tell what it really does with out the dyno.

the guages are not accurate of course. but it gives you a good idea if youre runnin lean or rich during WOT. check your plugs and see if the tips are blabk/brownish... or white/grayish.
spittin out gas? you sure it isnt condensation? spittin out gas is unusually rich.

Useless ? ofcourse its not as accurate as a wideband - but when dyno'ed my buddies (tuned with a a/f autometer) was BARELY off when compared to a wideband, it didnt dip at all along the powerband.
Dont say crap like that if you "heard" about it - only if you have experience in the situation.
O by the way - its RPM not RPMS putz

well first you need the presure gauge. to be accurate, second when u do get it. adjust the fuel pressre to stock, roughly 38-42 psi at idle.then see what happens. always reset the cpu when u adjust any fuel also...of course after you get it right.
