Thanx

My highest recommendation- Ive boiled my fluid the first time out, and after 10 minutes- pedal sunk to floor. Day was done!
I never did that again!

DEFINITELY change out your fluid and pads for something more performance oriented. My weak-*** brakes (which were new but cheap
) forced me to brake way early, and really slowed me down...in a bad way.

heh- exactly.
pads and fluid = smart choice.
i did my first event with stock pads and fluid and found that 10 minutes was about all the braking my car could handle (LS DC2) before starting to fade and turning to mush. the next trip out was with new pads and fluid, and what a difference it made.
ever since then, it's been better pads and fluid on any car of mine (or my friends) that was going to any type of track event.

Heh...I found out that track fees are actually the smallest cost in a weekend. I'm in the same boat as you.

If it's your first event you probably won't be trying too many late-braking techniques. Flush the fluid with some performance stuff and you should be okay, assuming you have a lot of meat left on the stock pads. Take it easy and concentrate on the turns, not the straights.
The first time I went out with stock brakes was the last time, I killed them by the end of the HPDE and had to drive home extra careful.
Yup it sucked but now I have HPDE worthy brakes and can drive to and from there.
Pads, fluid and SS lines.

i would also invest in (at least) a set of front pads for the track. My Axxis Ultimates survived 2 track days without fade but I would suggest something more aggressive. Cobalt and Carbotech both have "entry level" race pads (not too aggressive for your rotors). Flush your fluid and you're good to go.
that's too bad, did you spin your car on a freeway ramp or something?
you know if you didn't replace your hatch with a cf one you could probably afford the event.

yup....i only have liability coverage so i have to fix it with my $
.....i could leave it...not hurtin anything but i am a neat freak so im fixin it...need bumper, hatch, taillight, and quarter panal straightened....its gonna cost me....also with the rain my quarter panal is rusting where the paint chipped
any idea how much all this will cost?

It also really depends on the track you would be driving on. For example, New Hampshire International Speedway - hard on brakes. Most other tracks around you wouldn't have a problem. I have done many HPDEs with stock pads. Like others said, make sure the fluid is fresh.
During my last race weekend, I had ran out of pads and had to race the second race on stock pads. At the end of the race, it got a bit tough but it got me out there. You also have to remember it is a HPDE not a race. If they start to heat up a lot, you can simply slow down or come in and wait till the next session.
My father actually did his first HPDE with my car. I actually took off the race pads and put on street pads. Being a novice, he wasn't thresh hold breaking, and it is actually easier to use. It can be quite easy to lock up the wheels with the race pads when starting out...

Heh...my only HPDE so far was on NHIS. I scrubbed off about half of my front brakes there.
Are you a member of COMSCC?

No I am not. I primarily do SCCA and EMRA. I also have instructed with SCDA and NASA.
Any plans to make it to Lime Rock this year? I really love that track! (It is much easier on your car / brakes)
