Default Hunting idling after cleaning TB

Last thursday I decided to clean out my bored TB. It had some black oily stuff in it which I heard its normal. I cleaned it well and re installed it. Today I decided to take my car out and after about 20 miles of normal driving the idling started hunting from 900 to 1300.

I checked that everything is installed ok but all seems fine, reset the ecu, all in vain. Before cleaning my TB my idling was normal 750 to 800 RPM.

A friend of mine tried to adjust the idling screw on the TB but when trying to set the idling below 900 RPM , it hunts, when we left the idling at 1100RPM it stays there. We tried to unplug the EVAP sensor but it didnt solve the problem either. We also tried to check if the CEL is throwing any codes but it didnt.

What can I try to do next?

For my mods see sig.

This might not help at all. But a friend of mine cleaned his TB with supposedly the correct cleaner. but when he put everything back together, the car had the same problem as yours. Supposedly what happened is that the cleaner was too strong and it ruined some kind of sensor on the TB. Sorry if that doesnt give you some kind of an idea on what might be wrong.

cold idle valve? it may have been clogged or something, thats what regulates that idle problem i think.

or you may need a new tb gasket after removimg it and reinstalling, you may not be getting a good seal and that is cauing a vacuum leak.

Mine does the same thing for some reason. I believe my idle to be too high with the "black stuff" being cleaned out. A high idle will cause your ecu to try to compensate and it will fluctuate like you are saying. The only way to fix this is really turn your idle speed down. The proper way to do this is, start your car, unplug your IACV, CEL will come on, adjust your idle, turn off your car, plug IACV back in, reset the ecu and run again. Idle needs to be 750+/- 50 rpms, it if isn't, it will fluctuate. Or you can just live with it til it gets dirty again

Thanks a lot for the help guys as my friend Euro98ITR was freaking out............

We will try and wait for the TB to get dirty again...........and after adjust the timing.

I apologize if I'm wrong, but isn't the TPS on the throttle body (had a Type R a year ago, been a while since I've seen one, under the hood especially). Maybe that sensor is causing this?

But if a sensor goes wrong, will the CEL throw a code??

you got throttle plate cleaner in the iac valve. you need to pull of the iac and blow it out with shop air. then perform idle learn procudure.

You are not supposed to clean the black stuff out. It's there to prevent air leakage when the plate is closed.
