Default Considering an '89-'91 Civic Si as an STS autox car...

I've been autocrossing a '94 Miata in C stock for about a year, and I started thinking about making my car more competitive, and I came to the conclusion that the cost of R compund tires, extra wheels, custom valved koni adjustables, tire trailer, trailer hitch, and other smaller items wouldn't be worth it, especially when '94 Miatas aren't competitive in their class at the national level.

I was also shopping for cheap winter transportation, since my current winter car is about ready to die. That's when I thought about a Civic. Not only are they cheap, reliable transportation, but they are nationally competitive in STS.

I'm still only toying with the idea, but I've got a few questions.

How much does it typically cost (above the cost of the car) to prepare a Civic for STS, and what are the standard modifications? I'm familiar with the rules, but more specific things would be nice.

What are people running as far as shocks and springs?

What is the wheel size of choice, also, will my stock Miata wheels (14x6, 45mm offset, 4x100 bolt pattern) work on a Civic? The only reason for the second part of the question is that I have a set, they weigh ~10 lbs. each, and they have Azenis mounted on them.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. It looks just about like I was expecing. It might cost me a bit more than going all out on the Miata, but since I need a second car anyway, the cost is offset a little. Now I know I need to pursue this.

My whole budget including the car($2600) will be 5k. If you look for cheap parts and you don't care about having the absolute best equipment you can build it. What I've got so far is

89 si with 89k original miles: $2600
ebay intake: $30 shipped
k&n filter used: $15
kyb agx shocks: $360 regular price(got discount from sponsors)
dropzone coilovers, come with 350/450 springs: $80 ebay value(free from sponsor)
rear ST swaybar: $160 shipped
momo steering wheel,ebay: $60 shipped
momo hub: free from co-worker
15x7 A-speed 13lb wheels: $350 shipped
exhaust parts: $40 shipeed
ticket for illegal exhaust: unknown
more exhaust parts to rebuild: $15
vinyl numbers: free from sponsor
ebay momo pedals: $12 shipped

total: $3722 so far.
I still have to get a header which I plan on spending $100 on but just have to find a dc header for that price. Found one for $75 on ebay and bought it but turned out to fit a b-series. Also plan on getting the Unorthodox race crank pulley but have to pay full price for that so around $175 I think those are. Then the suspension bushings are around $150 I'd guess. Haven't priced them out. so thats about 425 more so I'm well under my 5k budget right now.

We'll see how far my cheap STS car gets me though. My car would definately not be a comfortable daily driver though. I guess you could if you're crazy and don't mind the ride but I like my stock 00 si as my daily driver MUCH MUCH more. Also spend on tons of time to prepare them compared to your CS miata. We've done a lot of modifying parts, especially the shocks now to get stuff the way we want.

My sponsors have helped me a lot and no way would be able to do the car as cheap as I am without them.
