Fake Car Alarm how-to!!
I heard that there is a way to make a fake car alarm using a simple flashing LED hooked up to the car's battery. I also heard that there is a way to make the LED start flashing only after you have taken the key out from the ignition. This sounds like a cool idea to me and I was wondering if anyone had info on how to do it. THanks.
Really all you'd need is a relay from Radio Shack. I'm sure if you go in there and ask about getting a standard 12v relay that is closed by default (meaning it lets power flow), they'd be able to get what you need. Then, when you wire the light, you wire it into the ignition so that when the car ignition is on, it causes the relay to open and disconnect the power to the light.
Damn. I wish I knew the technical name for the type of relay, but normally Radio Shack has 1 knowledable guy there.

Thanks for your help SeaDawg. I posted this in the EF forum and got nothing but flames so your help is appreciated. Just for the record, I don't really expect the fake alarm to scare car thiefs off ... maybe just the dumbasses who go around breaking my window to jack my stereo equipment. This has happened 3 times to date! What's kind of funny is that the first two times someone broke in, they were no doubt surprised to see and old *** sony pullout cd player which didn't even work right all the time!! Both times the person who broke in just left it halfway pulled out, hehe. I also wanted to do this mod as a sort of a joke/something to show my friends and laugh at.
