Default Pulled my valve cover off. Is this normal? VERY BIG PIC!

I pulled my valve cover off and noticed the jagged hole seen on the right side of this picture. Is it supposed to be like that? This is on the distributor side of the head. Is it a rough casting or is it a problem? Thanks!

I'ts normal and harmless unless it breaks off and falls into the pan. THen it might be a problem, but it's pretty hard to snap that chunk off. It's also in a lightly stressed area of the block.

Yeah, that is normal. Those are just casting flaws that almost all Honda heads have.

DSM heads have the same thing.

It sort of bothers me that the oil drainbacks have all the junk in them, but what can you do.

If you ever rebuild the engine, remove it with a die grinder.
