I recently switched from reg. motor oil to synthetic and now I lose more oil than ever.I need to change the valve cover gasket,but why am I losing so much more oil?Maybe because synthetic is thinner?I drained all fluids and refilled them to factory standards and am disappointed with the outcome of the oil switch.Any suggestions?

P.S. My Accord has almost 195,000 miles on it!

 

Time for a rebuild/new car.

Or go with a thicker oil and try some RESTORE.

 

gaskets and grommets check them. also check if you are burning oil from the plugs. g'luck...

It was a very bad choice to switch to synthetic at near 200K. Oil leaks, consumption, etc just increase with synthetic. You should switch back to convential immediately, then see what happens. If the consumption persist (>1 qt/ 1000 miles) then consider a rebuild, or at least start replacing offending gaskets if leaks are considerable.

 

i was warned not to to that with my 98 accord 129k, and now especially with almost 200k...hope the reg oil fixes the problem
