Honda Challenge 2004 Rules ARE UP!!!
I'll be the first to say.
Good work Ryan F. and the rest of the guys.
Now ALL H-C regions are using the same rules. Nice!
John- who thinks it is very cool that MANY compromises and friendships grew out of those messy rule debates!

Guess I'll be talking to Alex and John about the rationale for this.
Well, it's the Honda Challenge , after all. Will certainly be challenging next year.

I was looking at that as well. As I recall it's a 92-95 civic that won the championship this year - looks like Lyonel also get a weight break. Also, Jon who bought the 'teg LS was weighing in at 2475 + 185 driver and turning out 1:29s at Summit. Looks like he can lose about 135 lbs. As I recall James E.'s car runs 1:28.xx at Summit.
That should make for some damn close racing - which should be good. I also think that this will really push people to get their engines prepped to the max of the rules. How's Chikita's engine doing?
I know what I need to be running to be a contender now... At least, I don't think that it will be the car holding me back!

Yep. High 1:29s at Summit with the old weight. I think that the weight changes probably originated from the West Coast, where H4 appears to be almost all CRXs.

The ITA CRX? Yep. Of course that's with James driving, which doesn't hurt.

170-120-120-170. Open diff, stock ring & pinion. The price of racing just went up.

Nice job guys Were pretty happy with the job you did on the rules. It cant have been easy. I'm a little concerned with the stock rods and pistons for the Hybrids. It seems like false economy to me, after allowing free heads, compression and cams? No adjustable cam gears is also a little bit of a mystery?? However We can live with it. And I'm sure these issues will be resolved as the season, and blow ups go on. Were looking forward to bringing some fast cars to the East Coast and meeting all you guys. How about a schedule???

No. They're not in the same class. If you have questions regarding the rules, please take them to http://www.nasaforums.com

They way I read the rules adjustable cam gears are allowed for hybrids...at least I would imagine that's the intent of the rules...
Hopefully they can clarify that point...
Also of note, and something I failed to notice before (17.0c) about forced induction. Ram air is illegal, which technically makes direct ducting from headlight opening to TB illegal, at least in my eyes. Unless you have some kind of bleed hole that makes sure that pressure never goes positive....

hi Kiwi!
i truly look forward to seeing some of the west coast cars come here, too. can't wait!
and i think cam gears are allowed for H1 hybrids only; no cam gears for H5-H2. at least, that is how i understand it.

where did you see that? All I saw was that headwork was free, and camshafts were free. I didn't see any mention of cam gears, which leads me to believe they are just as restricted for H1 as they are for other classes.

That doesnt make alot of sense. Most aggressive after market cams don't perform optimally at 0,0. Cam gears are a tuning tool, I see no reason for them to be restricted in a class that has free cams.

Actually I belive the weight for 92-95 Civic EX was changed mid year last year from 2400 to 2305.

I have to believe it's an oversight. By trying to restrict valves and springs they had to start spelling out individual parts and forgot about the gears.
