here is teh story

on one side..i hear some people saying that higher octance gas is a gaz that is less prone to pre-detonation as it will only detonate further in compression as u increase the ocatne rating..
but they also say that the more octane the gaz is..the less it explodes..

then the other side say:
that high octane gaz is higher quality gaz..and it burns more effiently so explodes more ...

and some people are in the middle
and say that octane is for less pre-detonation and higher quality gaz wich leads to better performance ..

so i'm kinda all confused as i always thought that , leaving all the added **** in the pump gaz aside and only talking octane rating itself, a higher octane was better for performance and less prone to pre-detonation or at least occcurs later with quality gaz of course..

my father told me when i asked him tonight that they used 110+octane racing gaz
when he was doing ovals..

High octane gas burns slower and prevents predetonation. High performance cars usually have high compression and that is why they use high octane gas. It does not burn cleaner.
