Default Tire question

I have a question relating to race tires. It has nothing to do with Hondas, but it does autocross, and the car involved is uh, kinda similar to a Civic.

Anyway, my brother has this '95 Mitsu Mirage he started autocrossing this past summer. It is in STS, as the only mods are 16" wheels and an intake. It is usally in the back of the pack in STS, but in PAX hes gotten in the top half. Not bad considering the first time he raced he was the 2nd slowest car out there! He does alright for not taking it very seriously, plus there isn't really anything I can think of to gauge his performance against. The problem is the tires he has (AVS ES 100) are wearing quickly because of the autocrossing, probably more than he is comfortable with.

Here is where I come in. I have 2 195/55/14 and 2 205/55/14 Victoracers that I used on my MR2 this season that I don't know if I'll use next year. I'll probably just buy a new set of tires since I don't want to worry about cording the tires every event next season. These are my first R tires, so I don't know how to tell how much life they have left in them. Right now they have about 75 or so runs on them, the fronts look in decent shape, the rears are alot more worn (what do you expect, its an MR2!). Obviously the bolt pattern between MR2 and Mirage is different, but we have 2-3 sets of 14" wheels in 4X100 bolt pattern sitting around the garage.

Would would you guys suggest in this case? Would it be okay to use all 4 tires on the Mirage...would the 205s go in front, or the 195s (which I can see as being advantageous as far as tire wear is concerned since the 195s have alot more tread). Or is this just plain a bad idea? I suppose if thats the case I could just give him 2 of the tires to cut his R-tire budget.

Hmmm... Given those sizes, I would put the wider tires up front, however you say the 205s are more worn. I would think you'd want to put the worn tires in the rear. Running a wider tire in the rear of a FWD wouldn't result in optimal handling characteristics. I say give him the 195s, then either you or he can get a matching pair of 195s.

This would most likely put him in FSP... I think.
