OT - Montoya to Williams in 2005 - confirmed!
What do you guys think of this?? (from f1live.com)
The news that Juan Pablo Montoya is moving to McLaren in 2005 is now official so it is only natural to have some reactions from his actual team, BMW Williams. Here are the first two comments:
Ralf Schumacher, who is Juan Pablo Montoya's teammate at BMW Williams, said: "Naturally, it's disappointing for BMW Williams but that doesn't change anything for 2004. We will both do our best and the fastest between us will fight for the title."
Mario Theissen, who is BMW Motorsport's Director, is convinced that Juan Pablo Montoya will be just as motivated to win the championship with BMW Williams in 2004, even if he will switch to McLaren in 2005. "At the end of 2004, Juan will have been driving for our team for four years," said Theissen on BMW Motorsport's web site. "It's quite normal to think about switching teams after that period of time. You doesn't get the chance to win a World Championship title all day. If the chance is there, you must take it. Juan knows that too. I'm convinced that he will be just as motivated in 2004 as he's been up to now."
Fernando Alonso, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jacques Villeneuve are all potential candidates to replace Montoya at Williams but according to Mario Theissen, it is too early to start thinking about that. "We'll talk about the quality of the new drivers' duo when the decision is final."

Seems a bit odd to me...right now looks like Williams in the stronger team....who knows in 04 but still. Also, I am sure that JPM wont get the royal treatment at Williams anymore...they will lean towards RS who IMHO is not as good of a driver...intresting..

It's all about the bling bling. Williams aren't willing to pay him as much as McLaren are.

Soooo... If JPM and Kimi are at McLaren in 2005, who becomes the fabled "Number One"? Neither man is humble enough to accept anything less, especially if the new MP4/18 (19?) is as fast as the reports say.
Oooorrrr... even better, do I sense a replay of the old Senna/Prost "partnership" at the very same team just over a decade ago? Remember the 1988 season?
Speaking of 1988, is this the same Honda that ruled the roost and set the standard for engines from 1987 through 1992?
Just checking.

Sir Frank will have montoya sitting on the sidelines for the rest of the year.. There is now way he trusts the little bastard now.
HUGE mistake on montoyas part IMO! If he had not said anything till the end of 04 he could have gotten a world championship and asked for even more $$

Why wouldn't he trust him? Montoya still wants to win a world championship.

Theissen also crushed media claims that Montoya would jump ship for McLaren Mercedes before the agreed date of 2005.

Theissen also allayed fears that Montoya's exit would allow McLaren Mercedes to forge ahead in the technical development of their car.

If Montoya doesn't win the championship in 2004 then I still think that he will have a good chance with Mclaren. The only thing that I would be worried about is Kimi and Montoya co-existing.
BTW I'm a RR/autocross forum newb so, I appoligize if I say something stupid.

I'm assuming Coultard will be laid to rest?
