Default Trying to make a Civic Type R engine

The two engines I'm sitting on are a B16AII with hydro tranny (jspec)-
and a 94 GSR swap with tranny as well - I have both ecu's - ob1
currently i'm running the B16 swap in a cx hatch back -
I heard I could use the bottom end of the B18C block and the top of the B16?
Did I hear wrong?

that wouldn't make a CTR engine. CTR engine is a B16B.
What you're thinking of is "similar" to ls/vtec only you're just swapping one head for another since you'll be using a VTEC head and block.

a B16 head on a B18C block is called a poor man's type R.

actually i would recommend getting a JDM ITR motor over the b16b. i don't think the price is much different and you'll get better header, gearing, hp and tq.

b16b has the same block as a b18c5 except the pistons and crank shaft ( which make the displacement). For the time spent making a b16b I would get the ITR motor.

why would you want to use a b16 head anyway? the GSR engin is right there, don't do anything that is unnecessary and will make you slower!

You can run a B16 head on your B18C block for a strong hybrid motor. If it were me, I would utilize the fact that I have two great Honda engines and combine the two to make one hell of a frank motor because you would have an LS/VTEC with a block already designed for VTEC so you wont have to worry about keeping it under 7 grand and ******* with the oil galley and the oil fittings to convert a B18A/B block to make VTEC function. Plus you could just buy a set of CTR cams and a Type R ECU and you would have pretty close to a CTR (I'm probably going to get yelled at by another Honda geek for saying that). For the money you would spend on a B16B, this would be more effective, plus, there is no replacement for displacement. Goodluck and godspeed.

you fail to see the point, there is no piont of putting a b16 head on a GSR block if you already have a GSR engine fully assembled. All you are going to do is get less mild cams w/ less compression!

Hence the civic type R cams. And putting a B16 head on a B18C block will raise compression.

Agreed. GSR heads raise compression, B16's lower it. Its the combustion chamber design.

if you use a b16 head you must change out the pistons. unless you want to lose some power <shrugs>

you'll only be losing .2 points, just get a 2 layer head gasket (make sure your deck and head are really flat) and youll get those back and them some.

if the block is already seperated I would go through and change the pistons. Most likely you will go and do this later on. jdm itr pistons would be my choice.
