I also just switched back to 5w-30 for the winter. I experimented with 20w-50 my last time at Summit Point (80 degree day). I may run this in the summer during races, but I hear heavy weight oil may rob some horsepower.

Works for me, when I bought my car a year ago it was filled up with 0-30W synthetic oil (don't remember the brand) and over the winter I had to add 2 liters to keep up with the oil consumption.
This was over a distance of 12000 km's and cold Norwegian weather, just daily driving.
I had my car in for service at my local dealership in June and they put in Castrol TXT 5-30W synthetic oil and the oil consumption just dissapeared after the change of oil, just recently did an oil change myself after another 10000 km's and it's maybe used 1-2 dl of oil over the summer. So I continue to use the same oil.
Car is a daily driver and do not see track use, at least not until next season

You all know it says what weight oil to use on the oil cap on the valve cover right?

I have thought about switching to 5w-30,but I'm using 10w-30 Mobil 1 right now and its burning oil now with 45,000 miles.Wouldn't it burn 5w-30 even quiker?

Is the oil cap near the gas cap? I can't seem to find it. Anyone have a pic?

I always use 5w 30, it seems that anything else make my car kinda sluggish, even 10w30. I tried 10w50 once haha needless to say that was a waste of money and did an oil change about 200 miles later. Im tempted to try 0w30...

weeeeeeeeee!! another oil thread

I've always used 5w-30 also. That's what the oil cap and Honda recommend.
Just switched from Mobil 1 5w-30 ,(used for 25k miles) to Castrol Syntec 5w-30.

Rob, might as well stay with 5w30 if you're driving your R through winter. I run 10w30 all year but stored winters.

Have you tried another brand of oil besides Mobil 1?

If I remember correctly you're not the only Mobil 1 user burning alot of oil

Mobil 0w-40 and I've had nothing but fun and happiness. I think they have actually started selling this off the shelf now, I get it from Porsche dealerships.

Motul offers an Ester based 100% synthetic oil that comes in 0w40. It rocks the house.
