anyone doing the EMRA race at Summit Point this weekend?
hi fellas.
I am loaded up and ready to go with my ST-1 Ford Probe GT. i'll be doing the sprint races on sat and sun; there is a 4 hour enduro on sat evening into sat night. i'm not sure Probenstien would hold up to that kind of abuse; i think i'll just sit back and watch (or flag) the enduro!!!
anyone else coming down for the fun????
if so, come on by and visit in my pits; i'll be camping on site. car is a 93 ford probe gt, white in color (usually car #1 or #11). pretty easy to spot, as i think it'll be the only probe there!!!
for any of you racers out there -- registration is still open; check here:

A friend will be racing his Miata in the Enduro, AJ Russo. We'll probably be there for some of his race

hi joel!
i am 99% sure it is a free admittance event. i don't remember ever paying to go to a EMRA event (except if i was competing!). EMRA is a not for profit outfit, i believe....
and surprisingly, the temps are supposed to be: mid 40s for the lows (night time) and mid 60s for the highs (day time). small chance of showers on sat; cloudy on sun.
should be good weather for racing (and camping!).
i am going to desperately try to get the Probenstien down into the 1:29s; will try really really hard. best there in Proby so far has been 1:30.8. don't know for sure if i can get below 1:30.0; would be nice though
am trying out a different combo of brake pads; will be running Cobalt spec c on rear, and Carbotech XP 1109 on front. the brakes are the achillies heel of the Probe; if it'll just stop for 12-15 laps (thats all i'm asking; is that too much to ask?)..... anyone sitting at the stands between turns 4 and 5 will see some orange-white front rotors throwing some serious sparks going down the chute!!!! and near the end of the race, they will probably hear some 9000 rpm downshifts to second gear (only way to get that bitch to slow down after the brakes are used up).
see ya there!

Probenstien weighs in at 2680 lbs, without driver (and thats with 2/3 tank of gas!). the Focus SVT has more power (170 vs. 164 hp), better gearing (and an LSD, right?). most importantly, you have those wonderful 12" diameter brakes; oh god, what i'd give to have those on the Proby!!!!!
what you don't have is some of that low end torque that the KL-03 V-6 makes, plus the sound! man, wait til you hear the sound of that KL-03 winding out! it makes my H1 Civic sound like a Lawnboy.... that Mazda mill in there has a ton of heart, too. it doesn't know it should be dead by now; 180k miles on that motor, never been apart. just oil/filters/plugs. and she RUNS.
you and me; we'll be doing some dueling, my friend! come on over and chat; i'll be arriving around 10 pm on friday night -- look for a black chevy truck pulling a dirty white pace trailer..
looking forward to a fun weekend!

I wish I could make it, but there is really no more budget for racing this year. Even LRP was like a bonus event for me. I just hope my ST1 enduro championship survives the weekend, despite the 80 points up for grab on Sunday...
Good luck and good racing to all those who attend.

well todd youre right about brakes. (11.8 in front) they are terrific w/porterfields on. low end torque is not too bad w/aem but that is only motor mod. i have built a street legal fat boy. still have a/c power windows etc. this will be 1st time out w/revised suspension. just added coilovers and trying new spring rates.ill look for you. ill be up sometime sat. and will be camping also. and dont hit me car isnt paid for yet. as far as lsd not standard but i put quaife in.

your car sounds sweet; a few of the guys here have street legal/drive to the track racecars...
the Probe is as stripped down as i can make it; no A/C, no interior (except for dash). suspension is simple; eibach street springs, oem struts on rear; tokico on front, addco rear bar. stock engine, except for "iceman" intake and bosal headers/race pipe exhaust. stock tranny; no lsd. everything else is stock oem. its my backup racecar/budget racer!!!
i'll look forward to meeting you on saturday....

ps i'll try not to hit you!!

im old enough to know better so i tow the critter. i built it after selling my old itb 142e which i ran w/emra a ways back. i was tired of working on rather than driving the car. this toy has been a lot of fun. ill look you up at the track, ill be in my old white and blue f150. if you run w/emra alot you know my best friend, wreckerboy rob aka rob myles. ill bring the beer. dont know where im gonna camp out (usually near new store) since i will be a late arrival.
todd, i forgot. someone asked if there was an entry fee for spectators. i have run with emra since 1970 and dont ever remember a fee. emra wants people to come out. great bunch of people. and yes on weather. some years we've had snow. this year mid 60's. thank you god from us campers.
I'll be there crewing for the Dave Coleman/Dave Parker Golf (otherwise known as "the Turtle").
Unless, of course, someone's in need of another driver.

Guys, don't make me feel any worse about not coming. Especially you Carl! Now who's the bad influence?
My car was disintegrating at Lime Rock, I can now see daylight through the floor. The chassis is now retired and has earned its rest (been a race car since new in 88). I have a new shell to put all my stuff in and I just maxed out my credit card buying a CRX last week (4 1/2 cars now, no parking spaces, no garage).
Anyone thinking about going, EMRA runs great events and I would so be there if I could afford it. Next year!

had an AWESOME weekend at Summit!!!!
finished 1st on sat, and 2nd on sun, out of 4 ST-1 cars. got all the ST-2 cars, both days, too....
Probenstien ran like a tank; all i did was add gas and go. that car is unbelievable; it just doesn't know it shouldn't run like that... got a personal best of 1:30.4 in qualifying (for the Probe, of course!); the time sheet results were all gone after the race by the time i got there; i think i went faster during the race; i am praying that i got that elusive 1:29.999 time during the race
burned one set of brand new Carbotech XP1109s almost completely to the ground in 70 minutes of driving, total. cracked both front rotors. the last five laps of sundays race were white knuckle driving for me; had a multicolored ITA CRX behind me that i couldn't shake (we swapped positions serveral times); no brakes left (downshifting to 3rd at 110 mph into turns 1, 5, and 10). tach would wind off past the last number (8k+++++) but it helped slow the car enough to make the turn!
BTW, the XP1109s have held up better than any other compound i have ever tried on the Probe. thanx Matt and Larry!
probably one of the best race weekends this year for me; weather was unbelieveable; sunny and warm; geez, it just doesn't get any better than that!
oh, and the enduro was really fun to spectate. i'd like to see a ECHC entry try the 4 hour next year. a good team with a good car and a good battle plan could do quite well, i believe....
later,
todd
PS it was nice meeting Gary, the Focus SVT driver. we did a little early morning service to his car on sunday morning, and hopefully got it running straight; it was a sweet looking car with some really trick parts on it; i'd have loved to take it around the track for a few laps, but i don't think Probenstien would have appreciated that! don't want to upset the delicate karmic balance i have going between it and myself...

ST-1 was a little thin, cause some of them were running in the 4 hour enduro and didn't want to hurt the car.... there were 2 280Zs and a 2nd gen rx-7 in the enduro...
in the sprints, there was a VR-6 GTI, an RX-7, a Saturn wagon (!), and a SVT Focus. I think there was a 5.0 Mustang, but i think it broke down? the Saturn couldn't run sunday (broken).
I wish you'd have come down; would have added to the mix!
i'll see you next year, i'm sure!

todd, once again a million thaks. about lap 6 i ran over something between 7 and 8 and stared hearing horrible noises like something was going to fall off so i backed it way down just trying to finish. oh, and dumbo here forgot to shut t/c off for the 1st three laps, so the percieved misfire in the carousel was driver error. btw, whatever i hit did come loose by the end. just big chunk out of lf tire. thanks again
gary,
it was nice meeting you and great sharing some track on sunday! i knew you were taking it easy and figured something was wrong when i lapped you with the other guy hot on my tail.... thanx for getting over and making room on the inside for me at Turn 3
great weekend and hope to see you and the SVT Focus at the next race!

PS you'll have to bring it out to a few NASA races, too, and run it in PS-1!!!!
